Pumps to go all-bio-diesel

Krabi (dpa)

Thailand will enforce the mandatory use of 2% palm oil for all diesel vehicles fuelling at 10,000 service stations nationwide next April 1, the minister of energy said Saturday.

"Initially we will make B2 (bio-diesel) mandatory for the whole country by April 1, 2008," said Energy Minister Piyasvasti Amranand. He was referring to the bio-diesel fuel consisting of a mix of 2 per cent palm oil and 98 per cent diesel.

Well I sure hope we can get Shell Pura on the black market after. Its the only stuff I'll put in mine. If you haven't tried it you ought too have a go. Mine runs noticeably much better on that stuff.

That 2 percent bio diesel is just about enough to keep the fuel system cleaner and thus more efficient. I view it as a good thing.

meaning that the moves to B5 and B10 will be better ??

That's my opinion. Vegetable oil has a detergent affect to fuel systems as well as less odor and soot.

Bio Etanohol could be the better way..... A good exemple is Brazil (price are lower than traditional UL. and respectfull of environnement)

But DIESEL engines won't run on ethanol or UL (we are talking bio-diesel in this thread). I suppose that if it won't start it is being very environmentally friendly.

Meanwhile, B5 or B10 is great, modern diesels will run on very high concentrations (even pure) of vegetable oil without problems (unlike gasohol and petrol engines).

HOWEVER. What about a bit of CHOICE, why do the Thai authorities feel that the only way to get people to use the stuff is to compel them to? A price advantage will work just as well and allow those who's vehicles can't use the alternative fuel to continue running them.
