A shot of an mRNA vaccine as a booster affords some level of protection against Omicron infection in the short term. The duration of this protection and its effectiveness against severe disease are, however, uncertain, according to medical research conducted in Ontario, Canada recently and published on MedRxiv Preprint server.

The researchers collected data from over 470,000 subjects, including patients infected with Omicron, Delta and non-infected people between November 22nd and December 19th, 2021. The objective of the study was to estimate vaccine effectiveness (VE) against infections caused by Omicron or Delta in Ontario.

The results demonstrate that “the effectiveness of 2 doses of COVID-19 vaccines against infection (irrespective of symptoms or severity) is substantially lower for Omicron than Delta, and that VE against Omicron infection was only 37% ≥7 days following a third dose.” The scientists also observed negative VE against Omicron among those who had received 2 doses, compared to unvaccinated individuals.

"CAPE TOWN (BLOOMBERG) - Booster shots with messenger RNA vaccines such as those made by Pfizer and BioNTech failed to block Omicron in a study of some of the first documented breakthrough cases caused by the highly contagious variant. Seven German visitors to Cape Town experienced symptomatic Covid-19 infections between late November and early December despite having booster jabs, the researchers, whose investigation was authorised by the University of Cape Town and Stellenbosch University, said in findings published on Tuesday (Jan 18) in The Lancet. All the cases were mild or moderate, providing support for the extra shots' ability to fend off severe disease, death and hospitalisations.

Still, the findings demonstrate Omicron's ability to evade immunity generated by even the most powerful Covid-19 vaccine boosters. This underscores the need to continue fighting the pandemic with measures besides vaccination, such as social distancing and wearing masks, the authors said. The shots appear to generate protection against Omicron with other parts of the immune system in addition to antibodies, such as T-cells, and so far, hospital and mortality data have been less severe than with the Delta variant that dominated earlier."

The same negative protection against Omicron was shown in a report from California.  So , negative protection, but definite risk of side effects.  Like I have.   Not much of an incentive.  The big Pharma golden egg days are over.

The red pill us now available to those interested.

Therefore, we need to inject mRNA vaccines into 5 year old children asap!

Early Omicron Breakthroughs Show MRNA Vaccines’ Weakness

Antony Sguazzin, 19 Jan 2022 (Bloomberg) -- Booster shots with messenger RNA vaccines such as those made by Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE failed to block omicron in a study of some of the first documented breakthrough cases caused by the highly contagious variant.

This study is problematical because it lumps together people double-mRNA vaccinated with those who got a mix of Astra-Zeneca and Pfizer or Moderna, so it's not clear from this study how protective mRNA vaccination is against Omicron.

https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.12.30.21268565v1.full.pdf

It's already known that protection wanes after around 4-5 months, then time probably depending on age and risk factors. On Table 2, note that most of the cases are in the 4-6 months since second jab. Also, taking >7 days after third dose could muddy the results for effectiveness of boosters. Looking at Table 2, note that there are 50 cases in the 0-6 days after booster, then 114 cases >6 days to end of study.

This study was under way from 22 November to 19 December last year, so ongoing as Omicron appeared in South Aftrica. The study finished too soon to have reliable information on effectiveness of boosters, but the bigger fault is lumping heterologous (AZ+mRNA) with double mRNA vaccinations. They should probably be able to access the data to separate these two groups and should redo their study, and also add later data now available, including hospitalisations.

The important conclusions of this study should be discounted.
