Popular Post webfact
By Cod Satrusayang The Thai government announced on Thursday that they would reimplement quarantine free travel in light of lower-than-predicted Covid-19 numbers after the new year break. While Omicron has indeed reached Thailand’s shores, the outbreak has been mostly contained and the economy will once again be the priority of the government. A key part of Thailand’s economic recovery will be the return of foreign tourists to Thailand. But while the government is proceeding cautiously with reopening the country, a senior doctor warns that the job is only half done. Popular Post daveAustin
Quarantine free? Lol Outbreak contained? Lol What’s your actual numbers? No, not meaningless test results of a few thousand. Predicted infected per million. It’ll be percentages. No biggie, just admit it. Everyone else does.

Popular Post internationalism
but there is no thailand reopening - just another compulsory night was added on day five and followed by the second pcr test. SHA++ hotel is minimum 1200b, AQ hotel more. So if you are positive you are whisked by ambulance to hospital for 100-300k asymptomatic hospitalisation from your own pocket, because most international (and even thai) insurance won' cover it. Chances of getting positive is now 20% (based on phuket data from 2 pcrs). The meaning of Test&Go is now completely missing Edited January 21, 2022 by internationalism
Popular Post fondue zoo
....I just don't get why countries awash with Omicron are not asking Thailand for containment advice.
Popular Post Caldera
I'm not even sure if this latest plan can be called "quarantine free", as you do need to quarantine twice, for one night each time. They've basically made a process that was already too complicated or elaborate for many even more complex.

So 20% GDP against 80% GDP domestic production a bit like the tail wagging the dog? I think tourism is more important to Thailand then they're letting on.
ed strong
Countries that locked down with high vaccination / booster rates have fared worse than those that didn't impose restrictions and still haven't jabbed more than 20% of their population! How does that equal to a great vaccine? The fall out from this mismanagement is going to be immense 1

Maybe that should be changed to "I think money is more important to Thailand than they are letting on".

Yep, but that 20% employs a heck of a lot of (voting) people here.

Is the jury out on that yet? Places like Australia and NZ fit that bill and in the case of Oz are now letting omicron run.... infection numbers are peaking on the East coast already. NZ has yet to open up but omicron running through it is unavoidable. The advantage I see is that omicron is coming up against a highly vaccinated population, and it has already been confirmed that will reap benefits with lower hospitalizations. They missed the worst of the early mutations, like Delta with more severe symptoms..
MikeyIdea
Don't sgree with half done as the title say. Click bait again? I got my booster shot a week ago in isaan, I was early and the place was actually so quiet that I drove over to the hospital and asked if it was moved. Nope, just too early. Went back again and had my free pfizer by 8:30. I asked the nurse in charge and she said. Most in this town have already had their vaccine. I listened to people around me and less than half took their second shot, the rest their third. Sounds much better than half done to me Edited January 22, 2022 by MikeyIdea
