Correlation between low vitamin D3 and Covid mortality

Featured Replies

It would seem that vitamin D3 supplementation via sun exposure and oral vitamins is a good way to decrease Covid hospitalization and mortality as this Israeli research shows a strong correlation between Vitamin D3 deficiency and mortality in those who contract Covid.

"In June, researchers published preliminary findings showing that 26 percent of coronavirus patients died if they were vitamin D deficient soon before hospitalization, compared to 3% who had normal levels of vitamin D.

They also determined that hospitalized patients who were vitamin D deficient were 14 times more likely, on average, to end up in severe or critical condition than others."

The study is based on research conducted during Israel’s first two waves of the virus, before vaccines were widely available, and doctors emphasized that vitamin supplements were not a substitute for vaccines, but rather a way to keep immunity levels from falling.

Correlation is not causation.

I’ll take my Vitamin D during my daily bike rides, it’s a easily had supplement to the proven safe and proven effective vaccines.

Unless there are medical reasons that you might have poor absorption it sounds like a reasonable assumption that you are getting enough D. Of course too much sun carries other health risks. To add, it's not practical for people to get enough D from diet alone. Without supplements sun is the way.

Absolutely, and cycling in the sun maintains/improves cardio vascular and pulmonary health too.
