Thailand on Friday (February 18th) reported 18,066 new COVID-19 cases, 12,511 recoveries and 27 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

▶︎ Infections outside prisons: 17,898. Prisons: 168

▶︎ Recoveries: 12,511

Friday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 2,674,477 with 22,565 deaths.

The news comes as COVID-19 is not a medical emergency anymore due to changing situations but the Universal Coverage for Emergency Patients (UCEP) is available for COVID-19 patients with underlying illnesses, according to the permanent secretary for health.

Dr Kiatiphum Wongrajit, the permanent secretary of the Public Health Ministry, said that as the number of COVID-19 patients who needed hospital admission was small, COVID-19 was not considered as a medical emergency any longer. Only about 700 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospital for the time being, he said.

No particularly scientific and lacks variables but as a straight forward comparison using ourworldindata 7 day rolling average for cases and deaths.

16th Feb 2022 = 15,791 PCR positive cases & 24.57 official deaths

30th July 2021 = 15,809 PCR positive cases & 124 official deaths

No doubt some impact showing here from vaccination induced immunity and the Omicron variant being less virulent?

The question however is how high this will go, ICU and Ventilated cases on the up so we can expect to see a rising death count but it may stay below the triple digit mark hopefully! Or maybe that's wishfull thinking on my part.

Strange that Omicron does not seem to be spreading so much in prisons. Could be herd immunity at last.? Or could be something else.

Maybe same here .. several schools are closed or classes stay at home because of Covid.. Nobody talks about it so it doesn't exist...easy to keep the figures low

So they are saying in not so many words.....the pandemic is now endemic.....or what the heck is this man alluding to as cases keep rising upwards.....

Just for comparison purposes, my records from last fall, based on daily reports of that time, had Bangkok's daily case count peak at above 5,100 in mid August 2021.

In the same vein, there was a long period of time in August 2021 where the daily count of serious/critical COVID cases in hospital was running above 5,000, and the intubated group was running above 1,100, before beginning to decline -- far above current levels.

The current numbers for serious/critical COVID patients and those intubated roughly match those from late April 2021 (April 29 -- 786 serious/critical and 230 intubated), and it took another four months or so before they later peaked at the levels I mentioned in the prior paragraph.
