BANGKOK (NNT) - The Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council (APRC) has urged the Thai government to consider balancing its relations with China and the United States.

APRC President Surakiart Sathirathai who is also president of the Boao Forum for Asia Committee, stated in a keynote speech commemorating the Thai Journalists Association’s 67th anniversary that China is in a position to "shake the world."

Surakiart, a former deputy prime minister and foreign affairs minister, said Thailand must adapt to changes in its relations with superpowers, as these developments will have unavoidable consequences for the Kingdom.

According to the APRC president, China has advanced militarily, economically and politically by making tremendous scientific and technological advancements while narrowing economic inequality. He noted that Beijing’s "dual circulation" approach also contributes significantly to the country’s strength, stressing China’s investment in indigenous technical and industrial advances.

Surakiart added that various elements will determine whether China can compete with the United States, primarily in the areas of technology, partnership development through cooperation frameworks, and foreign policy orientations.

He further suggested that Thailand continue to improve ties with ASEAN members and create strategic alliances with the European Union, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and India in order to maintain a balance between China and the US.

This man seem to forget something, and that is what he is proposing have already been done previously.  Therefor both US and China knows that Thailand cant be trusted because they will play boths sides until things escalate Thailand will always side with whoever seems strongest at that particular moment and when it turns out the side they picked werent the strongest they will flipflop and turn against them.

Yeah no, i'm pretty sure that wont work again because both sides expect it.

Personally i firmly believe in case of a conflict Thailand would just repeat ww2 and side with China and when they realise they have overestimated China's capabilities they will flipflop and side with the US

That's a tough one for Thailand... China wants you for an allie and USA wants trade.

To balance Thailand to balance ties with China and US would require Thailand to first break its zip lock tie and mouth gag with China. Good luck.

Tradition to side with Chinese kinship in one form or another.

In comparable terms - both have parasitical leanings.

Best to put one's trust in Asian than the historic snakey blue-eyed devils.

I thought Germany was the super power. As someone does not want to get kicked out
