Wikipedia Silently Blocked? (true, Bkk)

Featured Replies

Well, I am forced to eat my words - True customer support responded quickly and with the information I needed :o

My problem was that I was not using their proxy (proxy.asianet.co.th port: 8080). After I had entered that, my connectivity seems to have been restored. I assume that the proxy helps control what sites I can see so I may now have problems with Wikipedia :D:D

I don't know when they started using this proxy because I don't access my True email so if they emailed me about it, I didn't receive it.

Hope this solution helps some of the people in this thread.

As a side note, I changed my DNS server a long time ago.....suppose that may be an issue here, but I don't know what to tell you Windows weenies though.

dave_boo>> Changing DNS-server does nothing when it comes to reaching en.wikipedia.org, since it's being blocked. And not all users of TRUE will have problems, infact most likely a majority wont. It seems it's limited to one stretch of series in the C-net-range, but we will see later on as more IPs come in.

TAWP>> Fair enough. I was just stating all the facts. I have had problems in the past with True's DNS server, and it would manifest itself in mysterious ways. For example, I couldn't use the url for a ping, but using the ip worked just fine.

I should perhaps add a disclaimer based on the chance that TRUE technicians are monkeys with wrenches/keyboards, so in that case using a different DNS-server or adding entries to your own host-file might in some cases work. Haven't tried it tho.
