BANGKOK (NNT) - The Russian embassy in Bangkok has said it is working closely with Thai tourism authorities to help accommodate the thousands of Russian tourists who have been stranded in Thailand due to airspace restrictions imposed amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

During a press conference on Tuesday (15 Mar), Russian Ambassador to Thailand Evgeny Tomikhin said the majority of stranded Russian nationals are concentrated in tourist destinations such as Phuket, Pattaya, Chon Buri, Koh Samui, Surat Thani. He added that the embassy is attempting to secure extended visas, find lodging and arrange repatriation flights on various airlines for those stranded.

Due to international airspace restrictions, many airlines - including Russia’s flagship Aeroflot - have canceled services, affecting as many as 6,500 Russian tourists in the Kingdom.

Thailand is one of 140 nations that voted in favor of a United Nations resolution demanding Russia’s immediate withdrawal from Ukraine and criticizing Russia’s "aggression against Ukraine."

Tomikhin stated Russia understood Thailand’s decision and that the two countries’ diplomatic ties would not be affected. He also made clear that Russia was not fighting an all-out war and that its forces were only targeting military infrastructure in Ukraine while attempting to avoid civilian casualties.

Russia now acts like a gentle country saying only military targets. Could this be because they are losing the war that should of never have happen in the first place, Putin's War!!!

They aren't losing, just not winning as fast as expected. All the reports of the brave stoic Ukrainian resistance are Western created.... a look at the maps, where Russian forces are shown, exhibits their ultimate demise.

Let’s not forget thailand is not a democratic country and use the same propaganda and suppression strategies to brain wash their own folks…military and authoritarian gov believe only what they want to believe and are victims of what they create in order to manipulate a false narrative…equally sad and dangerous

if you think Russia is winning in the image of the world and the economic impact it’s having on their people at home, think again….just wait when thousands of dead soldiers don’t return home to their families….a brain drain is currently happening in Russia

Russia is losing (note) and will lose regardless of occupation…it is and will be an eventually clone of North Korea’s economy - a country isolated from the world…totally dependent on China for survival

Putin’s single decision to invade is the beginning of the end of his regime….he is toast

This kind of reminds me of a fight I saw in high school. A big bully was fighting with a kid half his size. The bully was hitting the smaller kid so hard you can almost hear his bones brake. So everyone watching the fight then turned their heads, at that moment the smaller fighter grabbed the bully by his nuts and made him say uncle. So Putin may say uncle sooner than you think unless he has steel ball bearings for balls.

In a way, Russia has already lost. Anything that they gain from a stalemate or win militarily, is more that wiped out by the long term degradation of their economy and ability to improve their military in the future, by sanctions.

so Ukraine may lose in terms of its major cities being reduced to rubble, but long term Russia will be weaker.

I hope you are correct... the reporting in front of me now (Sky News on TV) is heartbreaking. Putin's nuts may well ne exposed..... but as I said, watching these report, I cannot see Ukraine as 'winning'..... they need far more help.

It's not the airspace restriction that is the issue for getting tourists home. There are plenty of one stop flights to Russia (e.g.,Qatar, Emirates).

Financial sanctions, inability to use credit cards, and lack of bank transfer ability is what has caused the big problems. It's odd that this issue wasn't mentioned.

Biden has now given Ukraine everything they needs except jets, and the kitchen sink, so come on Ukraine and push them back then out of your country. And don't worry the world will help you rebuild Ukraine.

All those places have have Russian Churches as with MANY others around Thailand, let the Ruskies camp out in them, and give the Ukrainians 5 star hotels.

There needs to be an investigation on who owns these churches, who paid for them, and follow all the money trails on these tax free entities. It wouldn't have anything with money laundering would it Nah not in Thailand.

As for you Tomikhin they can smell your pants burning all the way back in the Ukraine.

My daughter in law and her 75 year old mother escaped from Kiev and are currently in Poland with my son waiting for the mothers UK visa to arrive. Previously the mother was evacuated from the family home in Mariupol to Kiev.

I do indeed see the dire situation Ukraine suffers now.

Today, Russia ia bombs a church in Mariupol with hundreds inside with the word "CHILDREN" spelt out in Russian in giant letters to each side of it so it's visible from the air.

Makes me just want to rush outside and hug a Russian tourist...not.

Thomikin Is typical Russian ,lieing saying they are Not killing Civilians.

The Russians always Lies !!

One problem of course is the 500+ planes on lease stranded in Russia that Putin has seized tearing up the Canadian agreement of airlines being able to reclaim them without borders rendering them useless for external flights outside of Russia as they would be impounded just about anywhere on arrival ????

It is not a Russia - Ukraine " crisis "

It is an invasion of a Country by an aggressive Russian Force.
