Thailand is poised to pass a law that allows the chemical castration of sex criminals in a bid to stop them from reoffending.

 

The “Violence-Related Reoffending Prevention Bill” was proposed by the Justice Ministry and has already sailed through three readings in the House of Representatives.

 

After winning overwhelming support from MPs, this more punitive approach to sex offenses is now being reviewed by the Senate.

 

Chemical castration is not a new form of punishment. It has been used in South Korea, Pakistan, Poland, and at least eight states in the US. Other countries – including Norway, Denmark, and Germany – have opted for surgical castration of serious sexual criminals.

 

Why such drastic action?

 

Corrections Department records reveal that 1,037 convicted sex offenders went on to reoffend during the first year after their release from jail. About 1,700 reoffended within two years of being released, while 2,111 sexually violated victims within three years.

If the chemical castration doesn't work, a bullet to the head will certainly do the trick..

Castration is not necessarily effective in treating sex offenders.   Many offenders do so for reasons other than sexual gratification and that does not change with castration, chemical or otherwise.  

 

Rapists are generally motivated by power dynamics.   Child molesters are emotionally stunted and tend toward children.  Castration doesn't change those dynamics.

At the end of the day these are bad people and we need to do something. 

 

Having these monsters walking the streets, assaulting is unacceptable.

And as the article highlights, the worry is that it will just lead to the death of more victims given the possible outcome if prosecuted. Then there is the harsh reality that this is Thailand; the system is highly corrupt and if you have enough money, anything is possible.

I don't have an opinion on whether there should be life sentences without release.  There are different kinds of offenders and people get locked up for different reasons, including non-violent, non-touching offenses, such as peeping Toms and those who steal women's underwear.

I am not in favour of convicted murderers ever being released, whether sexually motivated murders or otherwise.  To me it seems that any society that is prepared to release a murderer values the life of the murderer more highly than it valued the life of the victim.  How can that be right?

It can help in some circumstances and should be offered as an option but as you say its not always a sexual urge. 

Why waste a perfectly good hypodermic and medication which may not work when a 9mm to the back of the head is cheaper and 100% effective?

These offenders should all be castrated, one way or another.

It is a good treatment, but not only that. I know I am not popular if I say that a lot of girls/women need to dress properly too... There is a big difference between sexy and to much flesh. If you walk in a mall and you look arou nd there are a lot of women who think they are on the beach side,too low and too short shirts, too short skirts and shorts . They show too much flesh as to say so, Than they don't look sexy but more like sex workers. Of course it is never a reason to be raped, but sometimes it is more sexy if they should wear 5 cm more fabric. And yes reoofenders of rape should be castrated...

They're showing of their assets.

 

I see many videos of Gold Diggers, girls interested in a guy when she sees his assets. These guys posting these videos usually look average and have a under average personality. 

 

I'm all for a beautiful woman showing their valuables to meet the man of her dreams $$$$$$$.

It may or may not prevent sex crimes, but the offenders might then be allowed to compete in women’s sports.

If you take away the sex drive you can´t have penetration or any other sexual activities. You are left with a common assault or abuse if you persist.

Due diligence, DNA, physical abuse etc. should be completed before castration.

Going buy the full story it is not permanent and one injection lasts 3 months and needs to be administered every three months at a cost of 10k per shot, the offender will wear a ankle bracelet.
