Government spokesperson Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana retorted opposition to Thai Srang Thai Party Leader Sudarat Keyuraphan on social media following her criticism against the government’s suggestion to reduce electricity costs by limiting air conditioning.

The Thai government’s suggestion to limit air conditioning, as well as usage of other electric appliances, had been made earlier this week following criticism from social media “netizens” over rising costs associated with various factors, including according to the government the Russia-Ukraine war.

Thanakorn said on his Facebook status: ” I saw Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, chairman of the Thai Srang Thai Party, posted a Facebook status that no matter how people tried to save costs, they couldn’t still survive. Because the problem was not how many degrees they had to turn on the air conditioner, but the problem was the leadership’s vision…”

Good idea.  Pray-hoot can start this as a true leader should, and this dork should follow.  Tell us how it's going in a day or so.  Idiot!

Austerity is always placed at the feet of the commoners.

But in this case it need not be.  Most Thai businesses keep their A/C set at levels of coolest that are ludicrous.  If you need to put a coat or sweater on inside - it is TOO cold.
Immense amounts of energy could be saved simply by turning the A/C temperature to reasonable levels.  I set mine between 28 to 30.  Reasonably cool levels can be attained between 26 to 30 degrees.  If you need a coat or sweater, turn the temperature to a higher setting.  Banks and doctor's offices seem to be the worst offenders.

But instead it will be:  "Commoners!  Don't use your air conditioners."
In the meanwhile government offices will be still remain in the deep-freeze zones.  You can see that a mile away.

A totally asinine statement given the fact that the hottest months of the year approaching, this just goes to show the lack of care for the common people.

Air conditioning can be a necessity for the aged and sick especially during the hot season. Its like the UK need heating for these people during winter and can get winter fuel payments,

The sick and aged should be a priority in the extreme heat at this time of year and money should be made available to them.

It would have been better to ask the public to "not waste electricity" rather than limit what you use.

The privileged never surprises?

Is there a market for farang sweat I have a money making idea ????

Turn off the air con?

Is this really the best they've got? Really? I'd bet my bollux to a barndance that no senior government officials will be turning down their air con for a single second.

We only ever have the air con on for 10 minutes every night before sleeping and that's pretty much it.

Course I may invest in an Indian Punkawallah if the Indians are about to come in their billions now as the TAT  predict.

If only the GF had an 'off' switch...

Great. I can leave my jacket home when I go to a cinema or a bar.

Why not limiting all those useless convois.

When a Mercedes S Class needs 4 cars in front, 4 at the rear and motorbikes to go from A to B.

Didn't they fire a  useless nuke last week, costing 34 Million baht (or something like that)?

Could have paid a lot of electricity with that amount.

Utterly unbelievable tripe, pathetic government !

I suggest the government make electricity cheaper - then we would save money.

The Khlong Toei slum dwellers will be switching their aircons down as we post.

Good idea to reduce air conditioning use . At least turn the thermostat up to 25 degrees

Most of the electricity produced in Thailand is from the use of natural gas . That will have the inevitable result of a price increase .

Keep it for the cinema......

They could certainly set the thermostats to less frigid temperatures in every 7-11 and similar little shops. Not to mention the cinema. The sweat almost freeze-dries on my back every time I go in there, and when you’re in there for more than three minutes you need long pants, a thick sweater and gloves.

I like going for a #2 at Big C extra.

Toilets are nice and cold.

A/C is always on.

Ok, and how will that help "to save electric costs". Please explain!

I have immediately turned off my air con, and the 3 fans I have running, oh I feel so much better already ????

Would turning off the wifeys respirator assist?????

Lay off buying that electric car or pickup, if electricity costs are going up. in

Thailand A/C seems fairly important most times of the year.
