A German citizen, who complained to PM Hun Sen after he claimed he was ignored by the German Embassy and left to live on the streets of Phnom Penh, has been repatriated to Germany after further intervention from the Royal Government of Cambodia. Martin Albert Schomacher aged 55, who has a physical illness and was sleeping on the streets, had earlier criticized his embassy in Cambodia for not taking care of him and for not helping him to go be repatriated to Germany.

The 55-year-old German was discovered after being posted on Facebook and received the attention of Hun Sen, the Prime Minister of Cambodia.

He was then taken by Cambodian officials to Calmette Hospital for treatment for physical illness and foot ulcers. Mr Schomacher left Cambodia on the night of March 25, 2022 on a repatriation flight back to his homeland.
