Is that why certain internet shopping sites and banks etc have recently amended their terms and conditions ???????? Either click 'agree' or go forth and multiply.

As for assuring the public their data will be protected, will the departments collecting this data have a more secure password, maybe a capital 'A' then 'dmin' ????????

And stop dumping paper records when their storage space is running low. No point having strict online protections in place when immigration just dump bagfuls of paperwork on the roadside because their archive roomis full

Is she for real? There is no data protection in Thailand. Especially if it involves foreigners. Members of the public does not include suspicious foreigners (all foreigners) and any Thai citizens of i

If people were really worried about personal data being collected and used by 3rd parties they'd delete Facebook and Whats-app today.

yes, but why trust them, are they your friends ?

i don't think so

You can make your own very easily and not need to trust any third party.

I would not know how to do that,  ?

But for me, i believe what ever you put on the internet , is hack-able.

in some form. i keep the most sensitive information on paper format / thumb drive. don't trust stuff like the cloud and all the other BS services, and never store passwords with a third party, they are just companies looking after you,  what could ever go wrong. ha ha .

Not a Luddite but keep my personal data to a minimum on the net.

my personal footprint won't turn up up much if looked into.

apart from JAV porno surfing !!!!!!!!!!!,  just like about the other 2  billion people on the planet !!!!!!!!

But if i  look at this stuff  to much it makes my eyes go a bit funny. :giggle:

Ps Oops that's  torn it , Ha ha

Cue the cyber boys. :cheesy:

Will this law stop banks from requiring access to your Contacts, Messages, Photos and going as far as fingerprinting to use the mobile app?

Edward Snowden detailed how the NSA was spying big time on any and all American citizens; collecting data at will.  Did he get a medal for his whistleblowing?  No, they wanted to string him up.

Don't expect any Thai Snowdens to come along.

I dont use the mobile app for this very reason. The worst part of it is the Fingerprinting. No, it isnt like you would get if arrested by the police. Mobile phone Fingerprinting is a way of tracking you within a 3m accuracy. The worst bit is it can still be done if your phone is switched off.

who are they trying to fool, only themselves I think!!!

There is as of today.

Didn't see anything about penalties etc for NOT doing it.

So another 100 bt fine? Meaningless and no deterrent . Another seen to be doing but actually in reality, "carry on chaps"

Edit:

It's in the full article;

one million baht fine on conviction.

If the unauthorised use or disclosure of personal data causes damage to other people or subjects other people to hate, shame or contempt, violators may face six months in prison and/or a fine of 500,000 baht on conviction.

I think the key words there are "on conviction"

A bit more details about the fine here: Sharing private data without permission can cost up to THB5m in fines (nationthailand.com)

That is the general idea from the barstool yes. In business it is a bit different.

That must be why many business's in Thailand employ illegal labour, lay-off workers without compensation, use unsafe scaffolding etc. I could go on and on to illustrate how ridiculous your statement actual is. The only thing different is are the kick-backs paid and generally that will increase by turnover or wealth of the owners.

From the Thai PBS World Article:

"If the unauthorised use or disclosure of personal data causes damage to other people or subjects other people to hate, shame or contempt, violators may face six months in prison and/or a fine of 500,000 baht on conviction."

This weaponizes the law for use against political speech, especially if such speech uses photos or likenesses of individuals.

Comfortable on the barstool?

Totally irrelevant what mode you use, Fingerprinting is a Geo Location service
