The cabinet approved the Civil Partnership Bill today (Tuesday), which, if made law, will allow a same-sex couple to register their partnership and recognises many rights and privileges enjoyed by heterosexual couples.

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said today that the bill has already been sent to the House of Representatives to be debated in this parliamentary session, though he is not sure whether it will be on the statute within the life of this government.

He said that this bill will be deliberated in the House, in conjunction with the Move Forward party’s Marriage Equality Bill, which goes a step further in seeking to legalise same sex marriages and grant equal rights, with the government-sponsored Civil Partnership version bill being used as the basis.

It keeps getting "put forward" purely as a gesture to keep the "Gay" community quiet.

Unfortunetaly it will never get past the "reading" stage, even assuming these morons in parliament can actually read.

I understand the religious input was essentially to replace the words "married couple" with "civil partners", which seems innocuous enough.

If it gets over the line it will be a ground breaking moment in the region.

The reality of the world is that same sex relationships are everywhere, even in places that flatly deny it, so giving such people the same rights as heterosexual people enjoy seems fair enough to me.

4 years ago the parliament approved the bill too and now still nothing. Again approved and how to wait again?? Make people happy with an empty shell?? A gift for the community they dare to say but if so. approve it and let it be a law the 1st of July. Than it is a real gift...Enough delayed....
