Dear all,

Probably been asked and answered hundreds of times but I'm new to this great forum. Is it 3 x 30 stamps back to back or only three in the 180 period? I spend most of my time working outside of Thailand, probably two thirds, but this time I'll be coming in on my fourth exemption. I've done twice as many days overseas than in the Kingdom, does it matter?

Cheers

common wisdom appears to be 90 days in 180 , with the usual caveat ,

up to the individual immigration officer

That is my understanding too

The rule is not more than 90 days in any six month period. So you could make many visits of 5 days but only three of 30 days. A visa entry can always be made so if in any doubt obtain a visa.

Thanks for all your help. Do the immigration officers count in 180 blocks since your first entry (or October 1 2006) or do they count back 180 days from the day you enter? i.e. If I entered tomorrow would they count back 180 days from then?

Thanks again.

Greenmole, here is the rule, straight from the Thai ministry of foreign affairs website.

"Foreigners who enter the Kingdom under the Tourist Visa Exemption category may re-enter and stay in Thailand for a cumulative duration of stay of not exceeding 90 days within any 6-month period from the date of first entry."

Important distinction: 6 months not 180 days. The significance of this is that

6 months is actually 183 days and if you attempt to re-enter before you've completed a

full 6 month cycle you will not be allowed to.

The 1st 6-month period for you would have begun on your 1st entry after October 1st 2006. Counting 6 months ahead, your next entry after that point would initiate your 2nd 6 month cycle.

Someone at ThaiVisa came up with a days calculator to figure this. days calc

As you spend time working in Laos, I don't think you will get tripped-up by all this,

but it is extremely confusing nonetheless and difficult to explain. :o

It doesn't get much clearer than Lopburi3's brief, concise summation above.

Excellent stuff Cali. Thanks very much. I will be getting a non immigrant O the trip after this one, but as I've started with a new company I'm in the process of getting the proof of income stuff sorted with them, and then the British Embassy.

Thanks again.

I was in Thailand when the new ruling started. I left on 8 October. Would those seven days I was already in country for be counted, or would it start one my next stamp in?Getting a bit cloudy here I guess.

Cheers
