Apsara fells rotting trees after accident in Angkor

Featured Replies

Apsara National Authority (ANA) has put in place measures to remove decaying trees around temples in the Angkor Cultural-Historical Resort area to ensure the safety of national and international visitors.  It is also putting up additional public advertisements and explanations to warn tourists about the dangers of falling trees, especially when it is raining or windy.

The move comes after a large tree was blown down by strong winds on Monday in front of the Pre Rup temple in the North Srah Srang village, Nokor Thom commune, Siem Reap city. It fell on a car parked underneath but no tourists were harmed.

ANA spokesman Long Kosal told Khmer Times yesterday that this was an “unfortunate incident” caused by strong winds and was the first case involving a tourist car. “Technical officials regularly inspect trees at risk, but it is a natural disaster that we cannot control,” he said.
