Sanook Thai Caption: Drama of the missing infant corpse

Sanook reported on what they called a drama of the missing body of an infant at a hospital in Phayao.

They had a video of something in a plastic bag being brought into a morgue as a dog circled.

The drama began with a post from Siam Ruam Jai foundation in Phayao, northern Thailand, claiming that a hospital worker stole a corpse.

On Sunday at 9pm the foundation along with the mother and father of the child went to the morgue with the dead body and it was arranged with staff on duty that they should pay 2,500 baht for an undertaker to take care of the disposal of the body in a proper fashion.

However, next day at 8 am the grandfather of the child turned up to see the face of the deceased child but when the cold storage area was opened the child had gone. A new morgue team was on duty.

Staff on duty allegedly told the grandfather that a security guard had removed the body and he went to the director to find out the truth.

The hospital's deputy director claimed it was a misunderstanding. The grandfather had not been told of the arrangement made by the parents.

It was claimed that the child had been put in a plastic bag and left out behind the mortuary to thaw, something they called a standard practice.

The deputy director said that in future parents would have to make all the arrangements themselves. The hospital would just do temporary storage and handle the paperwork.

A committee of inquiry would report in 7 days.

Pheerapong Nernwichian of Siam Ruam Jai said it was a cover-up of nefarious activities going on at the hospital.

He claimed there had been many cases of bodies going missing for purposes unknown.

When the foundation had arrived with the grandfather in the morning and not found the body they went searching for it in temples in the area but it could not be found.

It was discovered at 8pm left behind the hospital in a plastic bag.

I would have been suspicious of the dog.

Unbelievable, but then again...

Someone just pocketed 2,500 baht. IMHO. What happened to the corpse is anybody guess.
