Walen School Of Thai? And A Student Visa?!

so I'm sucker for advertising, I followed a link from this site to 'Walen School of Thai( http://www.thaiwalen.com/ )...........This school offer a student visa for one year if undertake their longer program, 180 lesson's over 50 weeks.

The prices seem reasonable and tbf I'm into anything that gets me out of doing harsh visa runs and mad visits to Loas!!!

I was wondering if anyone has done this course and had anything to say 'bout it???

or if anyone knows of other schools offering a student visa to study Thai?

it is a new school ... I do not think you will find anyone yet that can comment on their claims to making the process easy for a year :o

i visited the piammitr thai language school, 21 st floor jasmine building, at the corner of sukhumvit soi 23 in bangkok a couple of weeks ago.

i was there asking about thai lessons, they told me they could get an education visa, i dont need the visa as i am on an non o visa.

they have 2 classes per day, 9 in the morning until midday, followed by 1 in the afternoon until 4 in the afternoon.

basically you sign up for a 1 month 60 hour module that costs 6000 baht.

pay them a visit or google the piammite language school bangkok to get their number, they will tell you better than i can, how the ed visa works.

cheers

There have been a couple of schools recently (not sure if this is one of them) advertising a free visa. Personally I wouldn't go near them as they seem to be selling a visa first and a Thai course second.

I would say go with one of the reputable ones like Piammitr or UTL as they have a proven track record and will also be able to assist with a visa. I studied at UTL and know they can do this although I would imagine it is a lot easier to do if you are outside of the country when applying. I could be wrong about the last comment though.

If you REALLY want to learn Thai ... do the course at Chulalongkorn Uni ... FAR more expensive but they CAN get you the visa as well as 90 day check ins at Immigration rather than border runs. You will also be approaching true fluency at the end of the program (not a program for the weak willed like me :o far too intense! )
