International tourists, led by Indians, continue to pour into Phuket after Thailand pass ends, says airport officials

Phuket – About 7,000 tourists arrived and departed at the Phuket International Airport each day last month but more international tourists are expected to be coming to Phuket after the unpopular Thailand pass program was cancelled, says a top Phuket airport official.

 

The Director of the Phuket International Airport Mr. Monchai Tanod told the Phuket Express, “Last month about 7,000 international tourists arrived and departed at the airport per day. We have seen roughly a ten percent increase in international tourists after the Thailand Pass program was ended from July 1st.”

That's an interesting statement. If rolled out nationally there is no way in hell they will go from 1.9 million first 6 months to 9-10 million tourists last 6 months of this year

I don't know, Indians have become the biggest sponsor of ladyboys with their generous  donation of gold necklaces. ???? They are branching out from Pattaya and spreading the wealth.

Apples and oranges.

The airport director was referring to arrivals by air in Phuket.

The 1.9M projected to 9M refers to people entering Thailand, which includes also very short visits , e.g. border crossings by land from neighbouring countries and stop-overs e.g. one night in Bangkok. Without the need of TP, these will increase a lot. We already know that in general, pre-pandemic, Malaysians hopping across the border for a weekend of drinks and "massage" are always the most numerous "tourists".  I see no inconsistency with the two statements.
