Minneapolis ex-cop Chauvin gets 21 years in prison for violating George Floyd's rights

July 7 (Reuters) - Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, convicted last year of murdering George Floyd, was sentenced on Thursday to 21 years in prison on separate federal charges of violating Floyd's civil rights during the deadly May 2020 arrest, with the judge calling the ex-cop's actions unconscionable.

Chauvin, who pleaded guilty to the federal charges in December, already is serving a sentence of 22-1/2 years in a Minnesota prison for Floyd's murder after a trial in state court last year. The federal sentence will run concurrently and will see Chauvin moved to a federal prison.

While 2022 was a fabulous year for Justice, 2023 is showing every sign of being a vintage year for the lady.

A good decision.

 

The sentence will hopefully quell riots from the usual violent demographic and it runs concurrently so it's not significant to the defendant. The original sentence was appropriate.

 

As for justice for the business owners? No chance. Hard working Americans are considered secondary to violent, drug taking criminals like Floyd.

It was a murder caught on video, all details plain as day, down to the cop checking his watch while strangling him.  In 2020. Why does it have to take this long to get this resolved?

And the Floyd case shows that if a non-hard working American is killed by police  justice will also be served.  Gotta be honest, he was not the classic 'sympathetic figure' in injustice. But even so, his killer faced justice. This shows the strength of the American system IMHO.

Well in the face of multiple witnesses with video footage, Justice as served.

That’s because this bad cop got caught otherwise he would have got away with it .the blm movement is all about this kind of extrajudicial killings.They have to stop. yes George Floyd was a flake so what it’s still no excuse for his murder.most of the time they get away with it hence the blm movement did you notice all the white faces in the protests?that sir is is change and that’s encouraging !

My point is that it's completely irrelevant whether Floyd was. hard worker or not. Would it make him less worthy and therefore mitigate against Chauvin's guilt if he wasn't?
