Thanks for that, hadn’t heard of those. After doing a bit of reading on the internet, they do seem to be way more complicated to set up than a user ID and password, and I’d be scared that I’d lose access to important accounts if I mucked something up - I don’t even know how to scan a QR code! From what I’ve read, I’m unclear if you need a different authenticator app for each account. You can apparently install them on more than one device, in case you lose your phone or tablet. As for passkeys, I’ve just read up on those as well, and it seems you’d need a degree in computer science to figure out how to use those. I know I’m clueless when it comes to computers and smartphones, but I’m an expert compared to my sisters - at least I use a password manager secured with an extremely strong password, which is completely beyond their ability. -

Video Thai Motorcycle Rider Exposes Passenger's Misconduct
Photo via TikTok/ @naikarfi_w In a troubling incident that has sparked outrage online, a Thai app-based motorcycle taxi rider revealed an alleged sexual assault by a male passenger during a ride in Bangkok. The rider chose to expose the inappropriate conduct by posting a video of the event on his TikTok account, @naikarfi_w. The video, shared on 5th August, captures a male passenger wrapping his arms around the rider's waist and making unsolicited advances towards the rider's private area. Despite the rider's clear attempt to deter this behaviour, the passenger persisted. The rider remained silent throughout the ride but, after arriving at their destination, decided to make the incident public. The footage quickly went viral, with many online users condemning the passenger's actions as revolting. Commenters urged the rider to seek help and speak out in similar situations to safeguard his own wellbeing. Importantly, several other motorcycle taxi riders chimed in, sharing their own unsettling experiences. The motivation behind the rider's decision to share the video was to raise awareness and prevent future occurrences. However, his actions led to an unexpected backlash. Instead of receiving support, the rider was inundated with inappropriate comments and messages from some followers, trivialising the gravity of the situation. Messages such as "Can I do that too?" and "I’m jealous of this passenger" highlighted the disturbing attitudes that persist around such incidents. Compounding the controversy, the video revealed that the passenger was wearing a university shirt. This prompted calls from the public for the rider to report the incident to the university, urging for an investigation and potential disciplinary measures, irrespective of whether the person was a student or staff member. This case underscores a wider issue of safety and harassment in public transportation, particularly for app-based riders who are often vulnerable to misconduct. Many riders have come forward with similar stories, reinforcing the need for a systemic approach to safeguard against such behaviours. Social media has played a pivotal role in both exposing and perpetuating harassment. While platforms like TikTok provide a space for victims to voice their experiences, they can also become breeding grounds for further harassment. This highlights the urgent need for improved moderation and support mechanisms for users who share sensitive content. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by those in the transportation industry. As the conversation continues, there is a growing call for authorities and companies to implement policies that protect riders and ensure safe working environments. In Thailand, with its bustling cities and reliance on motorbike taxis, this issue is particularly pertinent. Companies are encouraged to take proactive steps in educating passengers and drivers alike on appropriate conduct and to ensure that complaints are taken seriously. This story is unfolding in a context where discussions on personal safety and harassment are becoming increasingly prominent. As society continues to grapple with these issues, it's crucial for platforms, educational institutions, and employers to foster environments where everyone feels secure. By speaking out, this rider has contributed to the broader discourse on harassment, but the incident also highlights the perils faced by those who do. As we reflect on these events, the hope is for a future where such bravery is met with support, rather than hostility. Adapted by ASEAN Now from The Thaiger 2025-08-07 -
