Briton Paul Urey, who was captured by Russian-backed separatists in Ukraine, has died in detention, reports say.

The 45-year-old's family, who was contacted by the UK Foreign Office about the reports, told the BBC they had "begged" him not to go abroad.

The UK's Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said Russia must bear full responsibility for his death.

The UK is seeking urgent clarification from Ukraine and Russia about the reports.

A serial mercenary who has been in most of the conflicts of the past 10 years. The was in the BBC article this morning, (they must have deleted it).

Every insulin dependent diabetic knows the rules, he should have had a large stock from his GP before leaving the UK, or made local arrangements.

Mercenaries get no sympathy from me, stay home next time.

No the BBC article did not say that he was a serial mercenary, it does say he worked for the The Presidium Network for 8 years in Afghanistan.

The Presidium Network is a UK non-profit that provides support to communities in crisis to manage humanitarian issues and represent the needs of people affected by violence or poverty to international-policy makers.

He was accused by the Russians of being a mercenary. From the BBC article it seems (but not explicitly said) that he was still working for Presidium Network. The Russians have shown time and time again they have no respect for Human life in Ukraine. Maybe Pedrogaz should check his facts, or join the Wagner group.

Sure. A mercenary with type 1 diabetes? Really? And to judge from his photo, grossly obese as well. Give it a rest. Your allegation is clearly ridiculous.
