Approval reported for a bridge between Koh Samui and the mainland

The Public Relations Department of Koh Samui is reporting that the Transport Minister, Saksayam Chidchop, has approved a project to construct the Koh Samui – Khanom Bridge connecting the island with the mainland of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.

Police to Launch Point-Deduction System for Traffic Violations

BANGKOK (NNT) - After increasing penalties for traffic violations, the Royal Thai Police have said they intend to implement a so-called traffic point-cutting system at the beginning of next year, a form of electronic traffic ticketing designed to improve driving discipline and reduce road accidents.

Penalty point system to be introduced next year for drivers in Thailand

A penalty point system will come into force nationwide from January 9th next year, to aid in regulating the behaviour of motorists and motorcyclists and in an effort to reduce the number of road accidents in Thailand, one of the highest in the world.

Transport Ministry’s MR-Map mega project targeted in censure debate

The Thai Transport Ministry’s mega project to build a high-speed, dual-track railroad system and motorways at a total cost of 5.7 trillion baht was targeted by the Opposition during the 4-day censure debate beginning yesterday (Tuesday). Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob later defended the project today, insisting that it will boost the economy rather than wasting money, as alleged.
