Trump ex-adviser Bannon convicted of contempt of U.S. Congress

 

Former U.S. President Donald Trump's White House chief strategist Steve Bannon departs after he was found guilty during his trial on contempt of Congress charges for his refusal to cooperate with the U.S.

 

• Conviction follows less than 3 hours of jury deliberations

WASHINGTON, July 22 (Reuters) - Steve Bannon, a key associate of former President Donald Trump and an influential figure on the American right, was convicted on Friday of contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena from the committee investigating last year's attack on the U.S. Capitol, a major victory for the Democratic-led panel.

A jury found Bannon, 68, guilty of two misdemeanor counts for refusing to provide testimony or documents to the House of Representatives select committee as it scrutinizes the Jan. 6, 2021, rampage by Trump supporters who tried to upend the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Each contempt of Congress count is punishable by 30 days to one year behind bars, as well as a fine of $100 to $100,000. U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols set a sentencing date of Oct. 21.

Will he be "bannonized" in jail? ????

Did you notice his lawyers didn't do any defense?  How is that even a trial?  It's like saying "I'm innocent because I said I am."  I'm expecting the judge to give the lawyers some blowback on this, but by claiming he was a victim of his inept lawyers the path to an appeal opens up.  

If he's in the lockup he can't dodge any more subpoenas, and showing up in court in the orange jumpsuit makes for "bad optics" as a former television star would say.  Let's see how this verdict affects the rest of DT's above the law gang.

I know I’ve said it before and I suspect I’ll have continuing cause to say it:

 

2022 is turning out to be a wonderful year for Justice.

He already looks like a jailbird.

 

Just look at that nose!  The worst thing about prison will be he'll get very, very thirsty.

 

 

He was begging to made an example of and his wish is granted.

Depending on the length of  his incarceration, if any, he could be an inhabitant of the Washington jail. I'm not sure 6 shirts will give him enough protection there.

If he gets time (he'll probably get a little) I assume it's a Club Fed type of crime.

Lets hope he is but the first of many Trumper traitors to be served justice, including the 45th himself of course.

Banner and Trump will hopefully get what the deserve.  On another topic, have you heard of the USA person who contracted polio?

If the judge sentence him on consecutive charges, he may get 2 years maximum. Deserving justice for an evil man but out in 2 years is still a threat to democracy. He is only 68 and he will be even more diabolical in the destruction of democracy when he is out of the slammer. I hope that the DOJ has sufficient evidence to criminally charged him for Jan 6 insurrection.

Judge Carl Nichols is a very conservative judge. He clerked for Laurence Silberman and another judge named Clarence Thomas. Have you heard of either of them?

So are you inferring that, from an original pool of 22 potential jurors, after a full day of vetting by both defense and prosecutor attorneys, the final jury pool consisted of nothing but Democrats ?  Seriously ???
Is it not possible that they were jut normal citizens who, upon hearing the evidence against Bannon (and no defense from his attorney's), concluded that the hobo was guilty as charged ?
