PRIME MINISTER PRAYUT Chan-o-cha was today (July 22) held accountable for a “foolish waste” of the taxpayer’s money amounting to 21 billion baht involving the navy’s planned purchase of a Chinese-built submarine without engine.

During the last day of a four-day censure debate, Pheu Thai MP Yutthapong Charatsathian alleged that Prayut who concurrently acts as defence minister had failed to save as much as 21.7 billion baht in down payment which the navy had already paid to China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Co. for its Yuan-class S26T submarine.

Yutthapong commented that the enormous loss had practically resulted from the “foolishly wasteful” deal which included a 12.4 billion baht price of its first Chinese boat whilst the people’s economic woes have not yet been solved by the Prayut government.

It is not all that bad, as he chose some great other options.

The screen doors will work well to keep the mosquitos out.

At the end of the day most of this Junta should be hung for Treason

the crime of betraying one's country, or overthrow the government.

Now now...the Gulf of Siam may be too shallow for a sub but it can park up engine less at the sub base China has built in Cambodia.

This money has nothing to do with a sub, engine or no engine, Prayut would have paid that much even for 3 legged buffalos, it's all about cozying up to the big brother and keeping China on Thailand's good side and its called money politics...

21 billion ? If I was him, I'd just fleece the chinese tourists when they came for 300 baht sub reparations - health insurance NOT included

More like Bathtub Subs that children use but the Government will ride the soapy massage bubble waves in......

Look at the bright side: without engines there can't be break failure

Sure there can be as the engines can not help with deceleration, much like riding down the hill in a soapbox derby racer....

hmm, I thought they use reverse gear to decelerate ships and subs, but I'm no expert

The reason he and his ilk will walk is they already gave themselves amnesty for any wrong doings, yet when Yingluck tried to give Amnesty to others she was charged and removed from office.

Have to have an engine to reverse those screws or thrusters...

Actually the reason they walk is because if defeated politically, they have tanks and guns which his ilk are absolutely prepared to use, as they showed at Thammasart University in 1976.

The whole Parliament thing is a dog and pony show to give the illusion of a modicum of Democracy. Nobody believes it of course, but the domestic audience can't (won't) do anything about it and the international audience has bigger fish to fry.

I suspect the commissions have already been paid so it is difficult to backtrack now. Diesel engines for subs can be bought secondhand I guess so that’s one way. Who on earth is the potential enemy a sub can protect against is beyond me. Could be Laos.????

Well you are right of course but he seems protected by 'That Person' at the very top to keep his cash flow. IMO

Mr P maybe had sought advice from Scott Morrison (Aust ex-PM) on how to screw-up a submarine deal ... has all the hallmarks of Sco-Mo's fingerprints

Should have bought Italian subs they were all built with 15 reverse gears, they even had aircraft that flew backwards but nobody else ever found a use for it.

I distrust ANYTHING Chinese (PRC, I mean, mainland China). Period.

Just ask Uncle Sam for a used one. Problems solved.

Isn’t this one of those early types of submarines where they still used oars?

Duff subs, duff mine detectors, what else has this guy managed to buy that doesn't work.

Or at Sattahip next to the aircraftless aircraft carrier.

Let's see he bought his Government by paying people to be senators that were unelected.

I was hoping someone might pick up on that one.

Put a 'Submarine' tax on all the Chinese that are coming to Thailand, also garnishee Prayut's wages and make him pay for HIS mistakes, I'm sure there was a nice little 'Backhander' in it for him in the first instance.
