Long traffic delays at Dover ferry port are fault of Brexit, claim French

I refer you to Operation Stack first being implemented in 1998. (French Strikes)

There was regular disruption in Kent for many years prior to Brexit, which eventually became a plan for lorry parks.

I remember but 1988 I think - UK seamen? But recently more events due to French strikes.

What, standing in line at border crossings like a 3rd world asylum seeker or seeing empty store shelves?

Don't forget to send us a postcard.

Well that confirms your knowledge of the UK. All from the Grauniad.

So many quotes. I wonder who said all that?

The EU is not doing fine - check the news - there'll be more on the way soon.

GERMANY - ENERGY

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-62234188

ITALY - DEBT

HOLLAND - AGRICULTURE

These are all going on now and the EU seems to be silent, as usual. proving again how useless it is as a leader in tough times. An unnecessary and very costly huge extra layer of government, more interested in its symbolism and the political control of a bloc of countries, than the actual well being of its members.

Union my toot.

You seem to celebrate any problem that happens in 'your' country.????.........

Yes,  Brexit has royally effed up Britain's economy so lots of people have problems. That much is obvious even from Thailand, half a world away.

You reap what you sow.

It's not a celebration, it's acknowledging that a problem exists and asking why it does. In many cases, the answer is Brexit.

Correct, and that's why I have empathy for those poor sods who experience it even when going back home.

Except for those who voted to leave, of course.

We voted Leave and don’t mind.
For all those Remainers who voted for the whole country to stay in, just so they could continue enjoying quick trips to their holiday homes, well we still don’t care.

Fortunately, I can survive in the UK but I don't feel any more 'free' than I did in 2019. In fact, on my recent trips to mainland Europe, having to wait in the 'All Passports' queue and then have my passport stamped reminded me that I am now - in some respects - less free than I was.

Any sympathy for the Brexit supporting pensioners who can't enjoy their winter retreats in Spain?

Not really, why should there be? Rules for residency are quite clear in most places. If they didn’t sort themselves out it’s their problem, not the care of 66M others back in the UK.

Europe is paying the price for its' dependence on Russia for its' energy, but energy-related decisions were made by the individual member states.

Nordstream is a privately financed venture between two sovereign nations, Germany and Russia. The EU has no direct involvement in it.

The EU has managed to get to get (most of) the member states to agree to reductions in their use of Russian gas (and oil).

Italy is suffering economically like most other nations. Italy is an independent, sovereign nation, and the government in Rome - not Brussels - is responsible for managing the country's economic affairs.

The decision to reduce livestock numbers in the Netherlands was made by the Dutch government, not the EU.

On the one hand, Brexiters complain that the 'unelected bureaucrats in Brussels' interfere in the affairs of sovereign states, but on the other, you now complain when the 'unelected bureaucrats in Brussels' don't interfere in the affairs of the individual member states! You can't have it both ways.

The establishment and ongoing management of the Single Market and Customs Unions are two pretty significant and powerful symbols which contribute to the actual well-being of the EU's members.

Well, at least you agree about the unelected bureaucrats in Brussels bit.

The EU issues directives on nitrate use.

The Euro currency has never suited the Italian economy.

I'll have to give you the Germans.

In any country I have ever been too in my life, there has been  immigration to deal with, even in Europe before EU membership.

But this thread has revealed the French caused a UK travellers headache.

I would suggest that there were folk in the Dover queues that did vote for Brexit, and those folk now know the French balls'd up..????

Good to have finally reached agreement on something, but I'm a little surprised that you might have thought otherwise? Why should the bureaucrats in Brussels be elected? They are employees, the same as UK civil servants.????

I see you are feeling particularly snide this morning.

Millions of people in the UK unable to afford regular meals is not something to laugh about.

It is however something you feel to be humorous and worthy of your cross thread trolling.

Tell us again how you love your country but find it laughable that people who live there rely on food banks to get the food they need.

I enjoyed that, more twist the facts socialist stuff, very good......????

Breixt was about the UK, not folk who chose to live abroad.

But, isn't there means for them to stay where they are, a bit like we can do to stay in LOS....?

But if the UK took back control, how come is it the French can cause such problems.

If the UK is in control  are in control, the UK can sort this out all by itself.
