July 25, 20223 yr The National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM) has said that natural calamities have claimed 46 lives, injured 78 people, and destroyed 3,515 homes across the country in the first six months of the year. This, however, is a significant decrease when compared to last year, as 78 people were killed, 129 injured and 5,491 homes were destroyed. Soth Kim Kolmony, spokesman for NCDM, said yesterday that three people were killed in the ongoing rainy season while thousands of task force personnel are ready to assist in any emergency situation brought about by floods. The NCDM plans to deploy more than 2,000 additional forces, besides nearly 40,000 troops and police who were put in place to help flash flood victims. Kolmony also said that there were 251 fires in the first six months, which killed 11 people and injured 32 people and charred 445 houses.
