13 “high risk” people in isolation to monitor for monkeypox symptoms

Thirteen people have been isolated under observation for 21 days, after being identified as being at high risk, having had close physical contact with a 47-year-old Thai man, who has been confirmed as Thailand’s second monkeypox case, according to Dr. Opart Karnkawinpong, director-general of Thailand’s Disease Control Department.

 

He said that the patient is now being treated in an airborne infection isolation room (AIIR) at Vajira Hospital in Bangkok, adding that specimens collected from those at high risk have been sent for lab tests and the results are awaited.

 

The patient admitted to health officials that he had engaged in unsafe sex with a European man on July 12th and, three days later, developed a fever, followed by blisters emerging on his genitals.

OMG they are starting quarantine on close contact

We are up for a second layer of paranoïa, the Covid being the first one as it is still working wonders here whereas elsewhere, although omnipresent, people have come to their senses

 

Do they understand how this works ???

They cannot control it....they just forget that not many people will readily admit if they had sex and whom with

 

Also unprotected or protected sex does not make a difference when it comes to that one, not withstanding the fact that one can catch it when sharing towels, sheets, kissing....

 

Ad to this that Foreign Health Authorities recommend vaccination for the known close contacts WITHOUT isolation...

this is get ridiculous, horrific we now have 2 confirmed cases in the whole country

that's more than 13, from the first case of a nigerian it was 19-31 (numbers from different articles).

 

thailand hasn't got any monkeypox vax. Has some smallpox, and I think those are long expired, by some 20 years.

Those were ordered from the WHO, but not yet delivered.

So they have to test all close contacts, that before deciding about possible vaxing.

By isolating they can learn more about disease, try different available medications, if those isolated turn up positive. Some of them have underlying conditions - aids/hiv, STD. So they are already on some antivirals and antibiotics. Doctors can find out if any of those medicines work on monkeypox or how medicines interact
