BANGKOK (NNT) - On July 26 and 27, the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), in its capacity as the APEC Anti-Corruption and Transparency Experts’ Working Group (ACTWG) chairperson during Thailand’s APEC Chairmanship through the 2022 host year, organized the Panel Discussion on Empowering the Media’s Inclusion in the Fight Against Corruption. The aim was to focus on the role of the media and investigative reporting in aiding APEC countries to prevent and combat corruption.

The gathering also discussed problems faced by the media as an anti-corruption watchdog, as well as ways that APEC economies can encourage journalists to play a positive role in fighting graft.

The project outcomes are expected to translate into deliverables for Thailand, promoting the tangible implementation of APEC’s vision of creating a conducive environment for inclusive and sustainable economic growth and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.

The NACC has also been scheduled to host the 35th in-person plenary meeting of the ACTWG on August 17 and 18, 2022, at the Shangri-La Hotel in Chiang Mai province. The meeting is expected to provide a forum for APEC economies to share experience and best practices, investigate new anti-corruption trends or issues of mutual concern, and strengthen regional collaboration.
