BANGKOK, Aug 5 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha sent his condolences to victims of the pub fire in Chon Buri province and ordered administrative officials and police to check the safety of entertainment places nationwide, impose preventative measures, find culprits and help victims and their families.

On the fire at Mountain B pub which caused heavy casualties in Sattahip district this morning, Gen Prayut said he ordered organizations concerned to quickly check damage and help injured people and the families of dead victims.

The prime minister and the government were very sorry for the losses and more precautions had to be taken, Gen Prayut said.

Wanting and doing are two different things and actually checking and ensuring all is safe should be done quarterly and a certificate hung on the front door just like food safety should be listed and done.  The graft to turn a blind eye is horrendous.  When I built my house in the north there was never one check completed by an inspector, in the US you can proceed to a next step in construction until the build is inspected to make sure it is up to code.  I mean hell look at the U-turn section being built that just collapsed.....lack of inspections and testing.....sadly it will occur again as life is cheap here and people care more about their wallets when building a venue.......

Really?, the PM should get his <deleted> together and realise that things like this will keep happening as long as Thais are allowed to ignore legislation.

What's the point when (1) they don't have a clue as to what safety standards there are/should be, (2) couldn't be arsed either ways and (3) for a handful of cash can be paid to approve absolutely anything? It's like watching hamsters running on one of those little running loops. Around and around and around we go, but never moving forward.

And numerous officials are allowed to not do their job, plus in many cases they have no knowledge of the subject area they are assigned to. Example: Redesign of Third Rd Pattaya some 25 years ago: redesign completd, work starts, numeroud complaints from residents, get investigated - redesign done by young son of council official, no knowledge, no experience or qualifications etc., but he did get a big fee.

Citizens scream loudly about the redesign aspects, waste of money etc., snr cop intervenes and says  'well we have to give people a chance'.

As always, a few weak, useless words from the PM with no force behind them.  In a few weeks, another useless statement that the PM is 'satisfied' with the results.

always after the fact when people are dead "RIP" - this is not the first time this has happened in Thailand, it is ok having standards but you must spend money enforcing them, the Cops seem to have plenty of time visiting venues like this to ### money, how about enforcing standards instead of stuffing money in your pockets

who in the government is responsible for this ??, I know Prawit is responsible for road safety - what a stellar job he is doing...........not

instead why not send some of the money that is supposed to be used to buy the screen doors for the subs without engines ?

Well just look at who really runs the country, hardly a role model for the students.

Tomorrow’s news, nightclub owner killed in motorcycle accident, case closed. ????

People ignoring the law?

What do you expect when you set the example by illegally ousting a democratically elected government and rewriting the constitution?

Maybe you could use some of the cash from the subs or the jets to properly compensate the victims?

Or are you all mouth and no trousers? That was a rhetorical question btw.

That's about the first intelligent thing that's ever come out of his mouth.

Yes, yes, yes, have them checked by someone besides the people who are receiving bribes for looking the other way.

And that would be who? Hmmmmm, hard to say...

Maybe when police raid night time venues they could check exit doors are unlocked and there are no fireworks etc. on stage?

You know, instead of looking for vaping devices or forcing patrons to pee in a bottle in public in case they took a pill?

Horses gone? Quick! Bolt the barn door!

Now "Mr. After the fact", is asking for responsibility. Why not before? Where are your safety teams when we need them?

OK, the consensus here is that the police/politicians/authorities/owners are all to blame and we live in a lawless/corrupt country where life is cheap.

We know that , it’s the same rhetoric whenever there is an incident. Can’t we also consider that the general public including some of us are just as guilty of burying our heads in the sand when it comes to safety here.

I spent many years in the steel and construction industries, I look for problems and out of a sense of wellbeing I try to avoid them. Did anyone notice during the Covid ‘crisis’ that ‘security’ changed. No longer were our bags being checked for explosives or weapons, instead all the emphasis was on our temperature. I have shops in a multi storey building at Chatuchak and again due to covid they found it necessary to place chains and locks around several of the exits. And no one questioned it, the doors remained locked and thus useless until we were all told that it was now safe for them to be open again.

Yep for sure I’m a boring old guy that checks out my surroundings when I’m in a building, that’s partly how I got old.

RIP to the deceased and my thoughts too for the horrific injuries some of the survivors have sustained.

Just what i was going to say , you beat me by 53 mins.

Right. Pretend to care now. Pathetic and predictable

Usual knee-jerk reaction.  The video of this fire (and burning people) went viral internationally, so expect Something To Happen.

Reminds me of the outrage when the young doctor was killed by a speeding motorcycle at the crosswalk.  The kneejerk reaction was to repaint/redesign the "zebra crossings" to make sure motorists stop when people are in the crosswalk.  How is that working? Like another poster said "give it 5 days".

Check these venues now....after the event as usual!

And just who is qualified to check them? Will these inspectors be allowed to accept back handers for "non compliance" issues not to be pursued?

Did you actually report these exits were blocked?....assuming that in Thailands' slack building compliance..almost all exits should be regarded as fine exits

Same old same old ...

Bikes on sidewalks, speeding, polluting vehicles ...

Next week all forgotten!

Yep. Part and parcel of the rhetorical show.

Next.....

Typical Thai situation:

Never plan in advance. Getting "active" after accidents, or when something happened not respected by planing.

Biggest safety danger: corruption!
