BANGKOK (NNT) - Shops and businesses can now enroll themselves in the government’s new phase of the well-received co-pay campaign. This next phase will go live in September.

 

The Ministry of Finance today opened a registration portal for shops and businesses to participate in the government’s next phase of 50:50 co-pay campaign, which will be valid from September to October. Introduced to help the general public cut down on living costs and boost the grassroots economy, the campaign provides those eligible a fixed fund, from which they can redeem at participating stores for up to 50% discount for their eligible purchases.

 

Shops and businesses that were part of the previous phases can opt to join the new phase on the Thung Ngern payment processing app, while businesses that have not participated before will need to complete online registration or register at Krungthai Bank’s service points.

 

Registration for some businesses, namely food vendors for delivery, will open on 17 August.

 

Up to 26.5 million people can receive co-pay credits in this upcoming phase. People who participated in the previous phase will be enrolled in this new phase automatically, but will need to make their first transaction by 14 September to maintain their active status. New users will be able to register on 19 August, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

 

The campaign covers food, beverages, goods, and services including massage, spa, haircut, manicure, and public transportation. The credits cannot be used to purchase lottery tickets, alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, gift cards, or cash cards.

Anyone care to explain if the economy s back on track as to why they need to continue this ? Or is it just lining some of the 'usual people's businesses' with government money ?

I would doubt anybody is lining their pocket.  I am guessing that this phase will operate the same as previous and those limited Thais to 150 baht a day spend.  It is great for small vendors as they benefited from increased sales.  It is not like hotels can join.
