Daily News Thai Caption: You can see the numbers plain as day

 

Daily News reporters raced to Chaiyaphum in the north east where locals are convinced they saw numbers in the bark of a tree that could be the answer to today's lottery draw.

 

They went to a house in ban Kulalom in Muang district where there was a "Khaena" tree.

 

Owner Prasan said that a while back he had had a dream in which the spirits of the land had advised him that if he wanted his family to get rich he should dig at the base of the tree.

 

Lo and behold 70-80 cms below the surface he found an image of Buddha on a stone slab that he reckons is more than 100 years old.

Now locals were busy praying to the tree and lighting joss-sticks convinced they will benefit too by divining numbers from the bark.

 

Some people thought the numbers were 08 while others reckoned 72. 

 

A lady called Khamra, 52, was sure that the spirits were right after Prasan's dream. She saw 08.

 

The draw for the state lottery, drawn every two weeks, takes place this afternoon.

 

Many Thais bet on two numbers to increase their chance of winning by buying government tickets or betting on underground markets.

After an enjoyable late night yesterday I hold out great hope that 69 will figure in today's lotto results.

The strange thing most Thai's only pick the last 2 - 3 numbers

hoping to win maybe a couple thousand baht , while in the West

lottery pickers choose 6 numbers + 1 ? not sure because don't

play any lottery , but they are wishing to win the BIG one ....

I think it's for the local 'mafia' lotto's where they perm 2 or 3 numbers so they can cover a greater number of possible outcomes for a much smaller outlay.
