Elevator doors are operated by a single motor located on the roof of the car.

This motor opens and closes the interior door which interlocks with landing doors unlocking them and drags them open and closed.

The opening circuit is isolated when the car is more than 9" away from any landing floor level. The landing doors have a mechanical device that will close the doors if for any reason the car moves away. from floor level without closing the doors.
