Is Gen Prawit maneuvering to become Thailand’s next PM?

Since his very first day as acting prime minister, Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has aroused suspicion that he intends to take the post from the current holder.

General Prayut Chan-o-cha was suspended as PM by the Constitutional Court on August 24 pending its ruling on whether his eight-year tenure has ended.

For many political analysts, Prawit has proved to be a more mature and astute politician than Prayut. Prawit, they say, has done better than his junior Army ex-classmate in concealing his emotions and political ambitions.

Setting sights on premiership

Analysts say that the moves Prawit has made as acting prime minister indicate his sights are set on more than just a temporary role. But they see almost zero chance of him fulfilling a desire to cement his premiership in the current parliamentary term.

“I think Prawit deeply wants to become prime minister but this is unlikely to happen in the current term. It may be possible after the next general election,” said Yuthaporn Issarachai, a political scientist from Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU).

"When asked why he wants to be PM, Prawit replied "They made me return my dead friends watches, I need some more"  then quickly fell asleep when asked multiple questions by the media.

What elections?

Please no.  Enough of Pray-hoot and his relatives running the Kingdom.  Besides, Fatty can't stay awake long enough and needs to mind all his dead friends' luxury watches and jewelry.  No time to be PM.

Could be an opening. :giggle:

And yet, most aren't able to handle this reality - instead, making something else up for their personal sensibilities and imagined political comfort.

It is what it is and will continue this way for the foreseeable future.

Wow, just imagine if the people could decide, and with so many eligible voters it pains me ask, why can't they? ????

He should retire gracefully.

I should rephrase that, I doubt he could do anything gracefully????

ummmm

The people have the government they deserve.

Suck it up.

I & I'm sure many others would be happy to see the back of Prayuth/Prawit, I had enough of these clowns a long time ago, be nice to have a proper election and an administration chosen by the Thai people for a change,

Enough of ruling by the power of a rifle, let the people choose who leads them.

This may well be why the LM law and the ultra royalist have been so prominent over the pat several years.

They feel that their power and control is waning whilst not realising or caring about the damage that they are doing to the country and the Thai people,

Perhaps because the people in control now, are terrified about what may happen when they lose that power and control.

IMHO they truly believe that they are the only ones capable of running the country. It is correct that they are running the country, but very badly and in which direction, nobody knows, not even themselves.

Actually the Thai people don't have the government that they deserve. What they DO have is a government foisted on them by lies and cheating, and the Thai people don't deserve that.

Gee, what was their first clue???

Ah, Yes.  Normal Thai people  never do that. :cheesy:

Sorry to say, but they all come from the same mold.

Will they ever. Grow up, brake the mold and move up.

100 years maybe.

Have you ever seen a politician terrified.

As they drive home in the latest Mercedes Benz. :cheesy:

While they are in power perhaps they do and they also know what may happen when, and not if, they lose that power and control.

I think greed is their motivation, control of the bottomless money pit ( the trough ) and protection of people of the same ilk!

Entirely correct.

Your underlying premise is right - but I would argue that it is an institution, managed and maintained by a number of parties rather than an individual.

Change however can come rapidly and unexpectedly. It needs a catalyst; a catalyst need not, of itself, be such a significant event. There have been a number of things which I have, in the past, thought may have been catalysts. I have been wrong, but that does not of itself disprove the idea.

Think most of them just move over to a smaller trough to feed from and then live off the fat from monies stashed in foreign bank accounts and foreign property investments. then if the going gets a bit rocky, do a runner to a foreign land. :giggle:
