ALONA MAZURENKO – FRIDAY, 9 SEPTEMBER 2022, 18:30

Ukrainian Intelligence reports that due to successful counteroffensive of Ukrainian forces on several fronts, Russian occupiers are looking for a way to escape, calling their wives and asking the Russian Ministry of Defence to get them out of Ukraine.

Source: Ukrainian Chief Intelligence Directorate

Quote: "The 237th Guards Airborne Assault Regiment of the Russian Federation no longer exists due to either death or injury of all soldiers. A large part of those who survived are in extremely serious condition."

Details: It is noted that the counteroffensive of the Ukrainian troops forces the occupiers to ask the Red Cross for help and flee on stolen bicycles.

Great news.

Hopefully the Ukrainian soldiers decimate this scourge!

I have the notion that these Soviet-era munitions Putin is buying from N. Korea could turn out to be one of the worst ideas Vlad has had in his life.  Poor workmanship?  Manufactured 40 years ago sitting in storage?

A regiment is brigade size. For the regiment to just disintegrate is a shocking military set back. That will mean thousands of Russia soldiers just too frightened and refused to fight and probably deserted. Contrasting morale with the Ukraine resolved to fight and Russia force to fight. Kind of like Vietnam.

Just remember, Putin ain’t shootin!

it’s the ordinary citizens that are committing rape murder genocide, and the majority of Russian people are for the war,

innocent Ukrainian people have suffered, no reason why EVERY Russian citizen shouldn’t suffer the same fate!

I've heard some crackpot Russian propagandists and even officials spouting genocidal rhetoric but never as extreme as your post. No need for that. Those who are responsible for war crimes need to be held accountable whoever they may be, doubt there's too many women and children in that category though.

..I'm sure there is a 238th.

As far as I was aware, a great many people in Russia still support Putin, sure, it can be down to propaganda as many Germans supported Hitler at one stage. But people need to take responsibility for who they decide to support....

Sending captured troops back to Russia to tell their friends and family what is really happening may help to counter propaganda.

From the Adviser to the Head of the Office of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Reminding to all "insiders" once again. Only Ukraine determines the negotiating agenda. It is known:

1. Liberation of all territories

2. Reparations payments by Russia

3. Punishment of war criminals

Our partners fully support this format. There are no other arrangements or pressure.

Deliberate strikes on critical civilian infrastructure (in particular, on the largest Kharkiv CHPP-5) — a manifestation of RF's terrorism and desire to massively leave civilians without electricity and heat. A coward "response" for the escape of its own army from the battlefield.

Failing invasion and subjugation of Russia by Ukraine/Western Nations (a fantasy) or ousting of Putin in favor of Russian leadership willing to accept internal arrest and prosecution of Russians for War crimes, the only Russians held accountable for war crimes will be those who are captured by Ukraine and/or its allies and prosecuted by an independent and sovereign Ukraine.

Ironically, the threat of war crimes by Russia may motivate Putin in part to continue his Special Operations in Ukraine. Putin has said that because Russia has not declared War against Ukraine, there can be no War Crimes.

I am saddened that 9 months after the military operation started that the left still refuse to accept there are 2 sides to this(and indeed every) story. We really are doomed when arrogant chest beating squashes any desire to understand what is actually happening. There is never a situation where one country is 100% right and another 100% wrong. Propaganda is used just as much in the US as Russia. If this dogmatic stance keeps up we are heading for nuclear war and an end to life on earth.

To help understand some background to this conflict, this article is useful.

As a Dutch person this sounds very familiar. Exactly how the Nazi’s fled The Netherlands on stolen bicycles at the end of WW2.

100% wrong with invading a sovereign countries , killing thousands of civilians, massive destruction of civilian infrastructure including hospitals and schools. Russia has invaded and annexed Chechen, Georgia and possibly Ukraine if not for the Nato strong response. What's wrong with you?

Yes there are.

That doesn't automatically mean that both sides have merit.

Is this true ? this seems like the Afghanistanian armed forces when the Taliban rolled in levels of really not wanting to be there.  I guess the difference here is as Zelensky says, if Russia stops fighting, the War stops, if Ukraine stops fighting, Ukraine ceases to exist..  I guess the Russian boys don't really want to be there and would rather be at home ogling stunning Russian girls and drinking Vodka.

On a side note, we've had a Ukranian refugee (escaped Kyiv) staying with us here in our condo in Australia for 2 months, its been ... interesting ... hearing her take on this. She just keeps telling me "don't believe any of it, from her side or from Russia", but she did say where Russia was once seen as a big brother, now... everyone is turning their backs on them. Is difficult to talk about it, not just the language barrier but do I want to remind her of why she fled  by talking about it ? I steered clear mostly.

It will be nice if the world just went back to hating on the US for it's imperialism and invasions, not sure we can handle another cold war (Russia, China, NK, India, SE Asia aligning  ?).  50 years ago the US installed Pinochet.

Are crimes committed in a " Non War" acceptable while crimes committed in a "Real War" are not? As long as you do not declare "War" all is fair?

I agree and disagree with you Jerno. yep you're right when you say "It's not the ordinary people." and yet Russia like many nations has a strong faction of ultra-nationalists, verging on ultra-right fascism that believes as Putin does.

Russia has a long history of anti-semitism, and an aggressive racism running through it.

Marry this to power mad people like Putin and those who surround and enable him and you've got a nasty recipe for what we see in the Ukraine.

How do I know this? Because I have moderate liberal thinking, worldly, highly educated, critical thinking Russian friends (most are journalists and scientists) who have educated me on their experiences of Russia pre-and post Glasnost, and Putin era.

The Russian failures in logistics, weapons and morale have been quite stunning. They will be in military case studies for decades to come. It's a predictable outcome from the massive corruption within Russia.

Having said that, the West needs to maintain resolve in view of the reverse sanctions on energy that have been applied by Putin. And keep on supplying the armaments the Ukrainians need.

There's an epidemic of "accidental " deaths going on in the ranks of the oligarchs now. Strange to think a single well-placed bullet could end the suffering of both Ukrainians and Russians.

The UK Guardian is hardly the best source of information on this kind of conflict.
