Met police announce arrest of Viet pickpockets preying on tourists at Erawan shrine - "Smart Zone" played part

Metroplitan police chief Pol Lt-Gen Samran Nuanma and Lumpini police announced the arrest of two alleged Vietnamese pickpockets preying on tourists at the popular Erawan shrine in central Bangkok.

 

Mrs Do Thi Kim Hoa was arrested in Soi Inthamara 49 while Nguy Van Cong was trying to flee the country in Chanthaburi on the eastern seaboard. 

 

Clothes and US and Thai currency were presented in evidence, reported Siam Rath.

 

On 3rd September a report had been received via the Thai police's Smart Safety Zone 4.0 community policing initiative from a Singaporean tourist.

CCTV linked to the system was then used to track down the culprits.

 

The Singaporean lady said that three people had stolen 1,700 Singaporean dollars from her (that's about 44,455 baht).

 

Three credit cards were also stolen.

 

One suspect remains at large.

 

The two caught denied charges of snatch theft and credit card offences.
