House January 6 committee votes to subpoena Trump during Thursday’s hearing

Maybe you are right and he will make an appearance for the Jan 6 committee and plead the Fifth

Perhaps, which is his constitutional right or he could start out with a comment on p. 31, 2nd paragraph of the IG-US DOJ J6 report and remind all in attendance that he did request national guard presence on Jan 6th but was deemed unnecessary. That would put some folks on notice.

Ask why was this not put forth by the J6 committee thus far?

Is it because it's exculpatory?

What you don't note is that Trump wanted the National Guard there to protect the demonstrators. Trump asked for troops to do 'whatever was necessary' to protect demonstrators who went on to storm

  • "Jan-6 is nothing,"   Only someone who puts Trump before country and democracy would post such contemptible words.

Nonsense.   The panel has a time table which must include the midterms.   A reminder perhaps that the rightwing have very clearly stated that if they win enough seats at the midter

Trump asked for troops to do 'whatever was necessary' to protect demonstrators who went on to storm the Capitol

President Donald Trump asked for National Guard troops to be deployed to protect his supporters at the rally on January 6 that culminated in hundreds of those supporters violently storming the Capitol, his former acting defense secretary told lawmakers on Wednesday.

Christopher Miller told the House Oversight and Reform Committee on Wednesday that he held a meeting with Trump on January 3, three days before the violent siege in Washington, DC, which resulted in at least five fatalities.

https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-wanted-troops-to-protect-supporters-at-capitol-says-miller-2021-5

And the truth of Miller's statement is obvious: when it turned out that it was not the demonstrators but rather Congress that was being threatened, Trump sat on his hands and did nothing. Not only that, he actually lied that he wasn't watching the event live as it unfolded on TV but rather was in meetings despite the testimony of multiple eyewitnesses.

Beside asking troops to protect the demonstrators #placeholder, Trump didn’t give any formal order to Christopher Miller for security deployment. It was in the contingency planning but no forward formal communication or anything in that nature.

Ex-Capitol Police Chief Says Requests For National Guard Denied 6 Times In Riots

"Sund says he requested assistance six times ahead of and during the attack on the Capitol. Each of those requests was denied or delayed, he says.

Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser also wanted a light police presence at the Capitol. She reportedly wanted to avoid a similar scenario as last summer, when federal forces responded to demonstrators opposed to police abuses who assembled near the White House"

Need to have a dialogue on the Sund's request and subsequent denials for NG presence.

No proof Trump asked for troops on Jan. 6 or that Democrats denied a request

  • There is no record of former President Donald Trump authorizing or requesting thousands of National Guard troops for the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

  • Several Trump administration officials who have testified before the House select committee investigating Jan. 6 said they never heard Trump request National Guard support before or during the attack.

https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2022/aug/10/facebook-posts/no-proof-trump-asked-troops-jan-6-or-democrats-den/

"Trump’s claim was debunked by fact-checkers in March, after he first made the statement during a Fox News appearance, and it’s still not true. There is no evidence Trump made any formal request about deploying 10,000 National Guard troops before the rally."

...

A timeline from the Department of Defense only mentions an agreement made on Jan. 4 about potentially providing 340 District of Columbia National Guard members at the request of D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser to support traffic control points and to deploy a quick reaction force “if additional support is requested by civilian authorities.”

...

While Trump never formally requested 10,000 National Guard troops, then-acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller told Vanity Fair that Trump brought up the figure in conversation on the night before Jan. 6.

"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has vetoed two Republican nominees to the panel set to investigate the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Citing "statements and actions" made by the pair — Reps. Jim Banks of Indiana and Jim Jordan of Ohio — Pelosi said she was rejecting their nominations "with respect for the integrity of the investigation."

"The unprecedented nature of January 6th demands this unprecedented decision," Pelosi said."

I think you will understand that the prosecution deciding who can act as defence for the accused is as banana republic an action as it gets.

Hypothetically- because the GOP has more integrity and sense that to do it, but I wonder if when it's Biden's turn to be prosecuted and the Republicans choose who can be Biden's defence team (I'd choose Tara Reid and Cornpop for the job - you can see that is not an ideal situation for Biden fans) try to understand how bonkers it is the left choosing who can defend Trump and how ridiculous this "committee" really is.

Isn't it true that Trump actually criticized McCarthyi for opposing the appointment of alternatives to those 2 congressmen?

Trump criticizes McCarthy for pulling Republicans from Jan. 6 panel

“I think in retrospect (McCarthy should’ve put Republicans on) to just have a voice,” the former president continued. “The Republicans don’t have a voice. They don’t even have anything to say.”

"Such tremendous lies and innuendo took place yesterday at the Unselect Committee on January 6th," Trump said Wednesday on his social media platform, Truth Social. "You will never get the truth when you have biased and hateful witnesses who are allowed to go on and on without even the slightest cross examination. Republicans should be allowed representation!!!"

What does that have to do with Trump sitting on his hands as he raptly watched the events unfold on TV?

Why would he have requested before the event that the National Guard be send to avert violence but when it actually broke out do nothing? Miller's explanation makes sense. I haven't even seen you offer an alternative one to reconcile these 2 facts.

And there's this:

Trump first falsely claimed that Pelosi rejected an offer of 10,000 National Guard troops nearly a year ago — and has repeated that in speeches. Trump did not make a request for National Guard troops to secure the Capitol that day, according to Pentagon spokesman John Kirby. “We have no record of such an order being given,” he told The Washington Post’s Fact Checker.

LIke most conservatives you fail to tell the full story and put forward a dishonest, half-truth rabbit-hole conspiracy to support your narrative.

It wasn't deemed unnecessary!

It would have been a constitutional crisis to put troops on the ground at the Capitol on January 6th, after Trump's embarrassing photo op at the Washington church where Milley and was tricked into attendance.

"The image of armed troops surrounding the Capitol, Milley believed, was incongruous with a ceremony cementing a peaceful transfer of power" and he believed it was the civilian law enforcement's responsibility.

'Christopher C. Miller, the acting defense secretary, was more blunt, saying “there was absolutely no way” he was going to put U.S. forces at the Capitol. He was conscious of news articles that Mr. Trump’s advisers were pushing him to declare martial law and invalidate the election results, he told the inspector general investigation, and having troops at the Capitol might fuel suspicion that he was trying to aid a coup'.

Trump only wanted the National Guard there to protect his own supporters and possibly to project his power by the appearance that he had the military's full support of his plans.

Trump's Secret Service had up-to-date intel of planned armed supporters on the day before the attack yet did nothing.

On the day, Trump still had to power to call the National Guard who were on standby or call off his mob, yet he sat there doing nothing for hours, in front of the TV, watching and gloating over his planned insurrection and attempted coup at the Capitol.

If the one sided show trial against Trump, who was not allowed a defence(which is when the J6 committee lost any and all credibility) and morphed into yet another witch hunt against Trump left anybody still in doubt about the democrats all-consuming irrational hatred of Donald Trump, we have this evidence just in. Shocking and worrying in equal measures, violence is still bad, right? This woman needs help to work through her rage problem.

"I hope he comes," Pelosi responds. "I want to punch him out. This is my moment. I’ve been waiting for this. For trespassing on the Capitol grounds. I want to punch him out, and I’m going to go to jail, and I’m going to be happy."

if you actually watched the jan 6 hearings you would know that the vast majority of witnesses were/are republicans...in addition to a massive amount of audio and video evidence in trumps own words....but go ahead and follow [Trump] and claim it is all a left wing witch hunt....OJ has been subpoenaed to testify and it will be his big chance to lay out all that long missing evidence of voter fraud he has been rattling on about with zero proof for two years now....and of course only guilty people plead the 5th so we can expect full answers and testimony under oath and under penalty of perjury rather than repeating the same ole lies on fox news or at his "rallies".  Go ahead Donnie, be a man and testify under oath and let's see all that evidence you have.  Free popcorn and kool aide for all.

No, it's not a total mess and trying to paint it so is just a way of evading the fact that Trump did nothing about the rioters breaking into the Capitol even as he was watching it unfold. What's more he lied and claimed he wasn't watching it because he was in meetings. Why is that a total mess? It's perfectly clear.

You can bet the house at least one indictment will come.

Jan-6 is nothing, it should be obvious by the methods of presenting it in a scripted for television production and all one sided. Needs a proper court setting, grand juries, special prosecutors, indictments, there is none of that. What do voters care most about? Show me their main concern, or ANY concern is about jan-6. The media may have it high up on their priority of concerns but not the voters.

If it makes you feel better, Trump may get "served" a court appearance for document and records mismanagement but not much more that is circulating in the media. Where does all this go now and where should it go and what should it lead to?

There is plenty of time to indict.

Department of Justice on many possible charges. Also Atlanta which has a very strong case. Maybe New York on financial crimes.

We know Jan 6th was a criminal conspiracy. It was a planned crime to overthrow American democracy. Several Oath Keepers & Proud Boys have already pleaded guilty

Giuliani pleaded 5th

Roger Stone pleaded 5th

Flynn pleaded 5th

Eastman, Clark pleaded 5th

Bannon refused to testify he refused to show up and has now been convicted of criminal obstruction of justice.

If your innocent why take the 5th - Trump words.

what is needed is to address the wrongs which took place on January 6, a very serious event/events which threatened to overthrow a government elected by the people.

You mentioned "the fathers brought a vision for America and Americans", but what you fail to realise was that this vision of a democratic country ruled by democratic principles was almost undone on January 6 by the action of a gang of mindless morons, led by an even more mindless leader, who stormed Capitol Hill and tried to overturn the basics of what America was built on.

Now stop ranting on and deflecting from other posts, and try to see reason, and the first action to enable you to do that is to take down all of your MAGA posters, your trump pictures and posters, and perhaps throw the Kool-Aid down the sink and try to climb back out of the rabbit hole by not listening to any right-wing propaganda.

But then again, there is more chance that "pigs will fly" than you being able to see reason.

They're all nut cases and now turning on each other, when Roger Stone asked Trump for a second pardon for January 6th he threw a fit.

In new exclusive footage obtained by The Daily Beast, a yet-to-be-released documentary captured Stone’s meltdown after learning no post-Jan.6 pardon was coming.

As usual a misleading headline by Fox News.

You failed to mention that respondents could agree with several statements at the same time. 63% also thought it was an attempt to overturn elections and 55% an insurrection.

From your linked article:

"For starters, "a protest that went too far" was the overwhelming favorite of the 2,046 Americans who were polled with 76% agreeing with that characterization of Jan. 6. The second most popular result was "trying to overturn the election and keep Donald Trump in power" with 63%. Both of those options were omitted in the graphic bolstered by CBS. Meanwhile, "an insurrection," which came at a distant third with 55% of Americans was kept in the graphic among the others which polled even less popular. "
