Liz Truss resigns as Britain’s Prime Minister after disastrous six-week tenure

Liz Truss will become Britain’s shortest-serving prime minister ever, after announcing her intention to resign just six weeks into a disastrous term that pitched Britain deep into political and economic turmoil.

Truss said Thursday that she would step aside for a new leader to be chosen within the next week, after a growing number of her own Conservative Party’s lawmakers said they could not support her any longer.

It brings to an ignominious end a catastrophic tenure in Downing Street, which appeared doomed ever since Truss’s flagship economic agenda sent markets into panic and led to a fall in the value of the pound.

As well as one of the most inept, incompetent and incoherent PMs.

Absolute debacle.

Let's not forget how often we thought in politics it can't get worse. And it did!

To be fair a lot of posters made it very clear just how unfit for office truss was and how unrealistic her tax cut blah blah blah bs was.

Several also pointed out she could not heal tory divisions and would lead them to defeat in an election if she went ahead with her fantasy dreamland tax plans.

It was made clear by said posters that it would get worse if she went ahead with her idiotic plans.

Coining a new phrase going forward.

Pulling a Truss.

I believe that refers to someone out of their depth, repeating a mantra ad infinitum and avoiding anyone who could burst their lunatic scheme balloon with cold hard logic.

They'd better get a move on.  Only 10 more Prime Ministers till Christmas.

Liz Truss : " Given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate .............."

What Situation and what had been the change ?????

Because no Queen to help you now, Liz ???

Next up has to be Rishi.

He said in the leadership race Truss's plans wouldn't work. He was right.

A quiet guy with no skeletons in the cupboard. Any mud slingers will find their mud doesn't stick.

No razzmatazz. His pledges offered stability and a need to wait and move ahead bit by bit.

It can only be him for next PM.

He won't have the support of the ERG, or any of the Boris Brigade, so it'll be difficult for him to get enough support. Especially as Graham Brady has confirmed that they expect to put the vote to the membership.

He's definitely the best of a bad (an awful) bunch, but it'll be difficult for him.

I believe the vote will only go to the members if there is a close race. If the majority of MPs get behind one candidate they will vote him/her in. I think they know there is only one candidate they dare choose.

Bring back Boris. At least he could string a few words together - and the UK could do with a laugh just now.

To compete as a candidate for PM, the applicants must secure 100 votes from MPs on Monday.

This favours Sunak.

Boris could have a few social parties this week-end and get more people onside

Was she the shortest PM in terms of height as well as length of tenure?

If not for the timing of the Queen's death her tenure would have been shorter.

She was probably the last outsider to palace to meet with the Queen, hmmmm . . .

Who's that knocking at the door?

Oh no, not again!
