If I cancel my AIS phone service but retain the sim card do I lose all my contacts, photos ,phone numbers etc. I have a dual sim card phone where I will insert a new Aust sim card.

If you cancel your AIS number, then probably the SIM data is gone, so just copy all your SIM contact numbers etc onto your phone memory before you cancel, then you can copy back to your Aussie SIM, or any other SIM you might acquire in the future.

I have been doing this for years.

Cancelling your contract does nothing to the content of the card or the phone. It simply means it doesnt work anymore to receive or transmit.

At my Samsung phone I can import and export the data from the SIM card. I also can select the storage location of the contacts (SIM, SAMSUNG account,...)
