Report Philippines Cracks Down: Gambling Ads to Disappear by August 15

PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro Tengco highlighted the significance of this move. "Regulating excessive and pervasive gambling advertisements is essential to protect vulnerable sectors of society," Tengco stated. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to regulate public gambling promotions and ensure that only advertisements endorsing responsible or institutional gaming are approved. Licensed operators, suppliers, and gaming venue managers are expected to comply. They must submit a comprehensive inventory of their advertising materials by July 16, detailing size, location, and contracts. This inventory is a precursor to the complete removal mandate. Tengco has made it clear that replacing removed adverts with new ones won’t be tolerated. Violating operators will face consequences, underscoring PAGCOR's commitment to enforcing this regulation. Concurrent with these measures, there’s a focus on online gambling. Though advertisements proliferate on digital platforms like e-wallets and ride-hailing apps, PAGCOR and the Ad Standards Council are exploring stricter regulations for online ads, ensuring they don’t encourage a gambling culture. While prevalent on physical and digital mediums, gambling ads face legislative scrutiny. Lawmakers are debating measures that include a proposed 10% tax on online gambling, restrictions on e-wallets, and higher minimum bets. Some advocate for a total ban to prevent illegal operators from exploiting vulnerable individuals, including the youth. PAGCOR acknowledges these concerns but argues against a full ban, suggesting it wouldn't address the underlying issues posed by illicit gambling operators. The move signifies a robust effort by the Philippines to balance industry regulation and societal welfare, aiming to prevent gambling addiction without stifling economic avenues driven by the gaming industry. So Trump was obviously blissfully unaware that he's the president of a country whose official language is English. I'm absolutely sure he wouldn't have complimented Mark Carney or Anthony Albanese on their level of English, or asked them where they studied it, so ask yourself, why did he ask this guy? No you wouldn't struggle to find such people, not in a country like Liberia where English is the one and only official language. No, because English is not their country's official language. However the leader of any country where the official language is English (such as Liberia) will perforce speak excellent English. They wouldn't get to be the leader of an English-speaking country if they couldn't speak the language well.- 1

Crime Midwife Arrested in Manila for Fatal Circumcision Incident

The suspect, identified as "Teresita," was detained nearly two months after the incident, which has sparked significant concern and outrage. Teresita, a resident of Balut, Tondo, was captured based on a warrant for Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide and Illegal Practice of Medicine. The warrant, issued by Judge Joel A. Lucasan of the Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 27 in Manila, marks her as the fifth most wanted person at the station level. The grim episode unfolded on May 17, when Teresita performed the circumcision at a local lying-in clinic. According to Colonel Ronald De Leon of the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 1, the procedure went terribly wrong after the suspect administered 20cc of anesthesia. The young boy began convulsing and quickly lost consciousness. Despite being rushed to a hospital, he was tragically declared dead on arrival. An official autopsy revealed that the boy suffered from a subarachnoid haemorrhage, which involves bleeding in the head, as the cause of death. This devastating outcome has raised serious questions about the administration of anaesthesia and the suspect's qualifications for such procedures. Despite being a licensed midwife, Teresita's professional integrity has been called into question. She previously faced a medical malpractice complaint for reportedly posing as a doctor. Patients who received treatment from her later discovered her lack of a formal medical licence, exacerbating the controversy surrounding her arrest. Currently, Teresita is held at the female custodial facility of MPD Police Station 1. This case highlights potentially severe gaps in regulatory oversight and calls for stringent enforcement of medical practice laws in the Philippines. As the investigation continues, this incident underscores the critical importance of ensuring that proper medical protocols and procedures are always adhered to, protecting vulnerable patients from such tragic outcomes. The case is a stark reminder for communities to remain vigilant in verifying the credentials of individuals offering medical services and the critical need for strict enforcement of existing laws to safeguard public health.
