Real life vs BS.   A while back, someone posted info about the MG ZS, average usage during test rating (NEDC or WLTP) of 18kWh per 100kms ... BS

I replied we rarely, if ever use 14kWh/100kms.  So, O&A today, PKK - Chumphon, and 3 photos; start, 1st traffic, so now less than highway speed, 88-90 kph when possible. Last, at destination.

It's the longest stretch of highway, with no cross traffic/traffic lights.  Start:

At first traffic light, so now in slower traffic after 154 kms & ~ 2 hrs.   Always happy if we can average 80 kph, which we did.

Using 13.6kWh/100kms.  With a 46.3kwh 'useable battery' equates to a range of 340 kms, on a full charge, all things being equal vs WLTP's 320 kms range at average of 47 kms.

The BS 18kWh/100kms equates to 257 kms range 🙄

As I state many times, we average 360 around town (~12.8kWh/100kms), mix 30-60-90kph.

And about 320-350 kms at highway speeds, when available; 87-90 / 110 ish in 120 kph zones.

Of course in slower traffic, you squeeze a bit more range out of the battery.  Last photo at destination, just 20+ kms further down the road, and now 13.4kWh for the trip, or 345 kms range on a full charge, all things being equal.

The MG ZS seems to agree with me, as snapped this at 50%.  174 X 2 = 344 kms

Finally found the post, stating a range chart for the MG ZS @ 18kWh/100kms, and strangely, that was the best in the chart.

The reply post link:

The actually chart.  Really don't know how their #s are so far off mine of <14kWh/100kms, along with all highway speeds, when able, except last 20 kms.

I was also using the AC, as sunny and no window tint.  Along with cruise control, which restricts regen when using.

2022 MG ZS BEV ...

Now @ 40k kms, 29+ months of owning.   First 20k kms put on in first year.  Took quite a bit longer for second 20k kms.  No issues, still 'Lovin' it'.   Local driving energized with solar, so enjoying the performance & savings vs ICE version.

~฿50+k per 20k kms, potential savings if all local driving, charged with solar.

~฿40+k if using PEA/MEA @ 5 / kWh vs ICE version of ZS

Unscientific battery degradation ~3.7% over that time/kms.

New ... 403 NEDC range

Now ... 388 NEDC range, or so the ZS is telling me.

Well within what ever the 8 yr warranty is, 70 or 80% capacity.

8 X 12 = 96 months

96 ÷ 29 = 3.31

3.7% X 3.31 = 12.25%

100% - 12.25% = 87.75%

My understanding is, fastest degradation is when newer.  So don't expect any surprises in the future.

This will be my last vehicle, I think, and probably the wife's, as kms will be added much slower after I crap out.  I'm the driving force for O&As.

Our mandatory local driving is less than 10 kms a week, and that's a stretch.  All could be done with the E-MB, so owning a car at all is a frivolous, convenience expense.

Took the MG ZS EV (2022), in for the 50k kms check up, and no surprises.  Nov 1st would be 3 years owning, as purchased 30 Oct 2022, but don't know how much longer I can tolerate the forum, so 3 yr report is now, couple months early.

Will probably be due for a new set of tires, maybe by year's end, or early next.  Consider 50-60k kms on any tires, damn good, and will buy the same from the dealer when ready.

Rarely touch the brakes due to regen slowing to almost a stop.  So that expense will be sometime away in the future.

Degradation of battery is less than 4%, and supposedly fastest 1st year, so really don't expect more than 8% at end of the 8 year battery warranty.  Most of the wife's driving will be local anyway.

We will keep the ZS till it or we die, probably the latter, so depreciation, reselling isn't an issue.   Though any 10+ yr old vehicle bought for < 1M THB, ain't worth much after 10 years, BEV or ICEV.

Our current vehicle insurance is actually cheaper than many years of same insurance on our ICEV.  Along with having a higher insured value if totaled or stolen.  Go figure, and we use Roojai.

Have a couple more O&A planned before Nov, so will probably hit 54k kms for 3 years owning, so average 18k kms a year.   Charging with excess solar at home, that saves 40-50k THB, depending on price of petrol, if all local kms.   Savings between MG ZS BEV & ICE, which we owned both.

Cost of petrol, 18k kms @ 14 kpL @ 32.5 THB = 41.7k+ THB

image.png.720f94eab2eeb1866b18381a3181043b.png

If have to use PEA @ 5 THB a kWh, then yearly cost would be about 11,575 THB vs 41,785 for petrol.  About 30k THB a year (18k kms) savings, for local driving.

Couple days away from 3 years / 51.5k kms, owning / driving, the 2022 MG ZS EV, come the 30th.   And well, still 'Loving It'.

https://www.mgcars.com/th

No complaints, and MG has been excellent, with 10k kms service check ups, and most done before I'm done the free coffee & treats.

MG & Roojai were excellent handling our little oops, with quick turn around on the repair, that involved ordering parts, non battery or electronic related.  Most, the rear driver side wheel hub, needed a complete replacement, along with quarter panel & door.   Excellent work all around.

Degradation of battery, maybe 1% a year, so at warranty expiration, probably < 8%.  Unless we upgrade to another MG, this possibly may be the wife's last vehicle, as just turning 49 herself.    Expect I'll be long gone within 10 years, as less than 2 months away from 71 yrs old.

Still running on original tires & brakes.  Might squeeze 10k more kms out of the tires.   Rarely use the brakes, so ask the wife at 100k kms  :coffee1:

Our other BEV, an E-MC, DECO SUSU, and just past 4 years and 7150 kms.  No complaints, and also been excellent.   One issue, replaces turning signal relay under warranty.   Battery degradation, surprisingly, probably <5%, as tested last week.

Fun to scoot around with locally, though you won't be going far (75 kms w/10-15 kms reserve) or top end fast, 87 kph during a tester, once, and rated @ 90 kph, and not need to test if accurate, as handled OK @ 86.   Nice torque & hp, and you'll pull away from the traffic light crowd, if wanting 🙄

To round out the EV fleet 🙄 my Schwinn bicycle, which I electrified.   DIY conversion kit, rear hub, and was way too easy to do.   Present battery is lasting way longer than I expected  👍

First one was a 'get what you pay for'  POS, and didn't last long.   I wouldn't recommend DIY, as pre made is much better, and made for the higher speeds; suspension & brakes.  But, I had the bike, and I was bored :coffee1:

Bored, so went through G Timeline and noted all our O&A. Timeline can be screwy with kms, so had to check the many I though were wrong, and most were. So corrected as much as possible. We seem to drive more kms when O&A, than locally.

2022 MG ZS EV after 3+ years of owning, purchased 30 Oct 2022.

Owning ~39 months (30 October 2022), 1,178 days = 3 years, 2 months, 20 days

... & 55,257 kms = 46.9 kms per day

1st year ... 19,950 kms, (~10,390 kms O&A) requiring hotel stays.

... ~ 0.6 % degradation

2nd year ... ~16,000 kms (~9500 kms O&A), for total of ~35,500 kms

... ~ 2.23% total degradation

3rd year ... ~16,000 kms (~9215 kms O&A) for total of ~51,500k

... ~5% total degradation @ 3 yrs, 2 month, 20 days & total kms @ 55,256 kms

Since Oct 2025, 3756 kms (~2320 A&O)

Might chime back in, Oct 2026, if charging differently makes a difference with degradation.

Popped up to Krung Thep, made excellent time before charging. Averaged 85 kph, and best ever. Really happy if close to 80, as usually 70 or less.

Made it pass the 3 traffic lights at Pranburi, without stopping, do to leaving quite early. I was hungry, wife & dog needed toilet, so made it all of 2.22 hr & 202.8 kms, before stopping. cheesy

Usable battery 46.3 of 50.3kWh & 13.7 kWh per 100 kms used
