Daughter requires contact lenses, any recommendations ?

Just returned from an overseas trip and had the daughters eyes tested at an Optometrist who recommended contact lenses as one eye is short sighted.

We had her eyes tested at a private hospital about a year ago and glasses recommended, we got the glasses but the improvement was minimal based on the specs provided by the eye Dr to the Optometrist here.

Optometrist overseas was very thorough and said was surprised that the eye Dr didn't pick up the huge discrepancy with the eye as it has only been 12 months and her eye would not have gotten worse in that short period.

That said, it is what it is and wife said she has found a place but has to change them every month at 600 baht per month. Being new to this, is this the norm, e.g. can't we buy her contacts like glasses whereby she keeps them and cares for them.

As the topic suggests, any recommendations on say a franchise, we are in Udon Thani but that shouldn't make a difference.

How old is your daughter?

In general, contacts are not recommended until early teens for most kids. They need to learn how to take care of them properly!

Why contacts not glasses?

Glasses = less fuss, less expense etc. Let them move onto contacts when they are older and also when their sight issues  have  stabilized  (this takes time) ie late teens.

Personally i am not very trusting of commercial  Thai optician shops, hard to find good ones and most put profits way  ahead of what is right for the kid.

Is there a good eye hospital in your area?

I have always found Ruitinin in Bangkok to be excellent.

They have a team of specialist pediatric eye doctors and the facilities (and the doctors) are excellent.

13, Optometrist overseas suggested contacts as the glasses put on my daughter made her feel off balance, and contacts would be more beneficial for her.

12 Months ago took her to AEK private ar Udon Thani.
