snoop1130 Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Deputy Prime Minister Supattanapong Punmeechaow defended the government’s plan to allow land-ownership in Thailand for residential purpose by four groups of foreigners, in his response to criticism of the plan by Move Forward Party Leader Pita Limjaroenrat in the House of Representatives. During the debate, Pita said he would like to know the government’s real motive behind the foreign land ownership plan which, he pointed out, is not new, but was introduced in2003, during the then government of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. He said that to date only eight foreigners had bought land for residential purposes and he could not figure out how the government would be able to achieve its target of attracting one million foreigners to do likewise, which would mean 40 trillion baht being invested in Thailand if the target is reached. Yes, they're all going to look like fools when nobody takes them up on their offer of massively overpriced land in the specially selected 'foreign ghettoes'. Is it a free for all when buying land or are there special areas with extra high prices? If it's pre selected then it's going to be very interesting to see who owns the land in question. 1 1

edwinchester Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 So since 2003 only 8 foreigners have thought it worthwhile enough to buy their own 1 Rai of sacred Thai soil. These clowns are totally clueless if they think keeping the 40 million investment clause is going to attract further hordes of foreigners wanting to buy their own patch on which to build a house. 1
lujanit Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 I wish my country would revoke the privilege of owning a house and land, actually any land to Thais. There would be an almighty outcry of racism and xenophobia and rightly so. Maybe Thais would see what it is like to be treated like foreigners in Thailand. 1
