Bangkok City Hall prepares measures ahead of imminent surge in PM2.5 levels

 

BANGKOK (NNT) - Levels of airborne particulate matter or PM2.5 in Bangkok are still considered to be within Thailand’s safety standard. Aware that the airborne dust issue worsens during the cold season, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is preparing mitigation measures ahead of the peak dust period. Online communications channels and smart signboards are among the measures that will keep Bangkokians informed when the dust level exceeds the standard.

THE head of a real estate association Friday (Nov. 4) said allowing foreigners to buy one rai of land under a new ministerial regulation still being vetted is unlikely to motivate them to do so because of difficult procedures and it would be better to extend their leasehold rights from 30 to 50 years, Matichon newspaper said.

Minister of Tourism and Sports Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn outlining the results of a Phuket pilot study on 4 am opening hours as his ministry finalises a brief for cabinet to get approval in principle for the later closing time in popular nightlife strips across Thailand with foreign tourists.

Pilot study on the Bangla Road in Phuket carried out by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports shows that 2 am to 3 am is the most profitable period for nightlife venues with foreign tourists only leaving their hotels at 11 pm.
