Supreme Court clears way for House to get Trump’s taxes

The Supreme Court on Tuesday cleared the way for the Internal Revenue Service to release former President Donald Trump’s tax returns to a Democratic-led House committee.

The court’s move is a major loss for Trump, who has sought to shield the release of his tax returns for years and is currently under multiple investigations.

There were no noted dissents.

Scott that's surprising - I'd thought that Trump had engineered a Supreme Court to favour him ?

"There were no noted dissents" - it appears that his Nominees turned against him ?

I don't understand how not providing tax returns prior to being considered to run for POTUS is even possible. Aren't finances part of a background check?

They held on long enough to effectively prevent a Dem controlled house getting hold of the returns. Mission Accomplished. Balance "seen".

Not everyone is still in under the MAGA spell

Republicans are speaking out against Trump’s 2024 run

“A true leader understands when they have become a liability. A true leader understands that it’s time to step off the stage,”

“We need more seriousness, less noise, and leaders who are looking forward, not staring in the rearview mirror claiming victimhood,”

Remind me, didn’t Trump make a campaign promise to release his taxes?

All Presidents since Jimmy Carter voluntarily released their tax returns as a tradition of transparency. Trump has been asked to release his tax returns since 2016 and fought against releasing it up to the supreme court and failed. Just what is he hiding?

Donald Trump reported losses on his tax returns every year for a decade, including nearly $700 million in 2009 and $200 million in 2010, his longtime accountant testified Tuesday, confirming long-held suspicions about the former president’s tax practices.

Those were honourable past Presidents that were doing the honourable thing to act voluntary.

And my point is it should be mandatory. Just to get a Fed job sweeping floors a background check including finances is required. But to be POTUS it's not?

Fully understand your point of view. However I feel that it should remain voluntary as a test of the candidate moral character.

His ego demands everyone thinks everything he does is nothing but a success.

The dem controlled house is there until January so they will get hold of them before they leave - enough time to look at some of the headlining items, and then the tax returns are a matter of record and so will be used as a stick to beat Donald during the campaign for the 2024 presidency

It's too late then. They lie "As soon as the auditors are done I'll release my taxes" and idiots swallow that. Compulsory is the way to go. There's also the matter of whose pocket are they in?

Illegal for the House to release them, apparently. They may be leaked anonymously but not legally.

But isn't he also on record for telling over 30,000 lies  durning his  time as POTUS?     4 short years and over 30K lies.

How many lies is that per day?

Really?  How can you be unaware that Trump never released his tax returns, and is not legally required to do so unless it is part of a criminal investigation or unless it serves a "legitimate legislative purpose".  I am not aware of any government background check on Presidential candidates.

Politician + moral character, those words are not often seen in the same sentence.

Also, the Senate remains in Democratic control, and the Senate Finance Committee has the same right to request the returns. So they're basically out there.

That's a very good point.   Since Donald Dump has a propensity to stretch the law beyond it's legal limits, I can't help but imagine there are plenty of skeletons in Dump's  tax closet.

Some politicians have display good moral character while some has less. In case of Trump, he has none.

Sounds like some of our local DT fans have not heard of him stonewalling his tax returns, maybe they don't mention it on Fox/OAN/RT?

He has been saying "I'm being audited, I'm not allowed to talk about it" since 2015.  And we all know it's bs.
