BANGKOK (NNT) - Police have launched a campaign to suppress football gambling during the FIFA World Cup season, warning that young people are particularly susceptible to engaging in online gambling.

The Royal Thai Police announced its plan to suppress football gambling during the FIFA World Cup season, as new platforms such as online sites make it easier for more people to make wagers.

The police have set up a prevention and suppression center for the World Cup season to enhance their anti-gambling operations.

Police Chief Assistant Pol Lt Gen Panurat Lakboon revealed that Royal Thai Police Commissioner-General Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittiprapas ordered the establishment of the center, with weekly meetings scheduled every Wednesday.

Sports betting is illegal in Thailand, except in the case of government-authorized horse races. However the emergence of illegal betting websites is making it easier than ever for people to gamble.

Pol Lt Gen Panurat said police operations will focus especially on young people, who can easily be lured in online betting, in addition to conventional betting practices.

The police will also be working with other government agencies, private firms and educational institutes to raise public awareness about the consequences of gambling.

BANGKOK (NNT) - Several organizations are stepping up measures to prevent football betting this World Cup season. The Ministry of Education has instructed schools to ensure there are no gambling activities on campus, while also hoping this sports season will inspire students.

The Ministry of Education said it instructed educational institutes to ensure no gambling activities are allowed to take place in school campuses during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Education Minister Treenuch Thienthong said her ministry intends to encourage students to be inspired by the games and understand that sports can be a successful profession.

The ministry is also coordinating with school directors to promote the teamwork side of sports, as well as prevent gambling. Anyone found participating in betting activities on campus, whether they are students, staff members or teachers, will face disciplinary action.

The police also announced they are ramping up measures against World Cup betting. Officers in Chiang Mai, led by Provincial Police Region 5 Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Piya Tavichai, last evening conducted patrols at restaurants and clubs frequented by tourists on Chang Khlan Road. Their aim was to enforce strict measures against gambling, drugs, firearms and services to minors.

The regional police commissioner has ordered all 159 police stations in eight northern provinces to proactively suppress gambling, including online sites and players. The general public can report tips concerning illegal gambling via the @inthanon1 account on the LINE messaging app, which will remain available after the World Cup season.

I have placed my bet iat the Las Vegas sports book that they will arrest over 100 for gambling on the World Cup in Thailand.  Based upon the below quote I had to take the Over on the bet as its 1,000,000 to 1.
