A Pattaya speedboat operator filed a police complaint after his beach chair rival allegedly gave him a bullet, threatening he would be hurt if he kept stealing his customers.

 

The victim, Mr. Pongsakorn Anunahong, 21, reported a terrifying incident to Pattaya police on Thursday, November 24th, alleging he had been threatened by his unnamed business rival.

 

Pongsakorn told police he was a speedboat operator in Pattaya, and his rival was a beach chair vendor. Earlier this week, the suspect allegedly walked up to his friend, Supawit Nongyai, 20, and handed him a bullet, saying “Give it to your friend,” which he meant Pongsakorn.

Moral of the story, avoid beach chairs and speed boats if you don't want to get caught in a cross fire/massacre!  

I thought deck chairs were ordered to be removed by Prayuth as beaches are public spaces and people could bring their own towels and beach gear.  How can an individual wonder down claim part of the coastline and charge others to use it.  

 

It's like claiming a public road and charging people to use it and park.

There seems to be mafia style tactics involved in every Pattaya business going. Headed by the boys in Brown.....

Nearly anything and everything ordered by Prayuth is ignored. He is not exactly "Mr. Follow up". Two weeks after his proclamation, all is forgotten. Been like that for 8 long years now. Mr. do nothing. 

What can one say? We need some magical device that just erases vermin. 

 

You stole my customer. I will take your life. These are kids, with the emotional development of a 13 year old, looking and dressing like adults. They appear to be adults, until they open their silly mouths and speak. 

Beach chair mafia against the speedboat mafia.. it will be an interesting fight. Hope they all kill each other and then maybe Pattaya will stop allowing these types of mafia to control businesses there.

World renowned family friendly Pattaya.. bring your kids.

It's a country of gangs.  Half a dozen families control price fixing across a variety of areas.  There is a Mafia of taxi drivers in each town; a BIB mafia in charge of protection/gambling/prostitution; the Army Mafia chopping and changing the Governments. Any attacks on members of the public (especially farangs) require a gang of seven minimum.

Presumably it's one of the speedboats taking customers to Koh Larn .. beaches used to be quite busy there but I haven't been recently.

Where are the 'car parking mafia" in the scheme of things?

The speedboat operator could encourage tourists to use his services instead of those of the beach chair operator.  You cannot sit in a beach chair and a speed boat at the same time.  After taking a trip on the speedboat, tourists might also choose to head back to their hotel, whereas if they had sat on a beach chair, they might have spent most of the day there.

It's just an affectionate way to refer to the fact that business in Thailand is generally controlled by bribery, corruption and the threat of violence.

I think it behaves like this:

The beach chair rental Thai Guy  cooperates with a speedboat provider!

The beach chair provider promotes "HIS" speedboat for HIS guests, and gets commission!

Fetches now another speedboat at "HIS" beach section guests, so he misses his commission!

So ergo: Other speedboat "steals" guests!

Thai Logic!
