Well, he pished off the puritans/Prayutites with his position on marijauana, so he probably sees this as the only way to get back some brownie points from those anti-alcohol zealots. Self-serving {please feel free to add your choice word here}.

So Anutin (not Zarathustra) spoke .................. again and again and again and again!

He is completely wrong in his illgotten assumption, that Covid-19 outbreaks are on a stark increase between 2am and 4am; likewise excessive drinking is more mind boggling between the aforementioned hours.

Visiting tourists are mostly not motorized and use taxis and taxi-pickups, pillion ride on motorbikes, working people, most Thais and myself are in bed at that time anyway.

It is about power, nothing but power as absolute power corrupts absolutely and this pristine example of a hard working man in the exclusive interest of land and people leaves nothing to the imagination.

His statement of "maintaining balance in all dimensions"; a man with a private ranch and a private airport for his own personal use .......... puts all I learnt sofar into new light and dimensions ????

Shutting night venues at 2 a.m. is probably appropriate in light of the Covid-19 outbreak and to prevent accidents that may occur through excessive drinking, he said, adding that it is essential to maintain balance in all dimensions.

That's laughable, the only balance he's interested in is in his bank.

Anutin opposing 4 AM drinking is the best thing he has said for a long while, however, to oppose the 4 AM drinking time on the grounds it could spread Covid is a nonsense.

Now! If he had opposed it on the grounds that it will increase the incidents of Drunk Driving early in the Mornings, which would lead inevitably to a greater loss of life on Thai roads, and the fact that those who were lucky enough in managing to get to their place of Employment or Business unscathed, would be totally useless at what ever they were Employed to do through still being drunk or hungover, then that would be the words of a wise person.

More risk of covid hey, now that's a good one.

I don't think that it makes a difference, if people want to drink, getting drunk it's not going to stop them from drinking even if the places are suppose to close at 2 AM .

Same as with the the stupid rule that one can't buy alcohol because of restricted hours during the day.

You can only buy alcohol between 11 am to 2 pm and 5 pm to midnight.

The first time I heard that the Heath Minister is talking sense..

Yeah, because there's no way people could spread the virus as much between 11am and 2am as they can between 2am and 4am!????

DEPUTY Prime Minister-cum-Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said yesterday (Dec. 6) that he disagrees with a proposal of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports to extend the closing time of entertainment venues to 4 a.m

hardly a surprise, it is damaging tourism, any of my friends who have come here recently will not be back in Thailand until this is sorted out

......and the overall balance of power that the elite have retained forever.

The call for a broad revolution should be prime among the population.

There is a small sporting event on at the moment where the games (50% of the quarter finals and 100% of the semi finals) kick off at 2am.   So there is that.

Not interested,  the French have only their B team.  And the Aussies are out.

Many people oppose this 4 o'clock closing time. Only very few will benefit but many others will suffer. There is enough party, sex and booze business already. For residential areas even 2 o'clock is too late already. Very many noisy open air entertainment venues are at such locations. And normally they don't care about others. If they even have a licence at all... And there needs to be the infrastructure for this later opening time. Emergency services and police for instance. All will pay for this. If they benefit or not.

In respect of Covid. Don't forget that we had to use the mask everywhere outside of the entertainment venues but not inside the entertainment venues. Very strange but obviously this "industry" is very powerful and got special regulations. Will be interesting to see what will happen regarding extended closing times. Will they get what they want again? Will they simply not care about laws and regulations? Stay tuned ????

Good news for everyone living near a pub/club that has a job and needs sleep.

Those dissapionted at having to go home at 2am instead of 4am could always go out two hours earlier so they are suitably smashed by 2am

@WHansen maybe not live near a pub/club if it bothers you that much, and as far as i know clubs don't usually have accommodation by them.

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said he disagreed with allowing nightspots in certain tourism spots to stay open until 4 AM because it could spread Covid-19.

Anutin, who is the main proponent of cannabis legalization, gave an interview with the Thai media before attending the cabinet meeting today, saying the Public Health Ministry was concerned that the nightlife closing hour extension to 4 AM from 2 AM could lead to the spread of Covid-19 and road accidents.

He stated that closing at 2 AM was already appropriate for the nightlife sector. However, the minister added that he was willing to respect the majority in the cabinet.
