Pattaya — A 25-year-old motorcycle taxi rider crashed into a dog and killed it in Pattaya. The man reportedly admitted he was traveling at high speed.

Sawang Boriboon rescuers received notification of a motorcycle accident involving a collision with a dog, resulting in injuries and a fatality, around 1 AM today, December 18th.

The rider, Mr. Kritphan Koomsaard, sustained minor injuries, but the male dog, aged 3-5 years old, was found dead on Thappraya Road near the rider’s damaged white Yamaha NMAX motorbike.

'Motorist' is generally taken to be a car driver.  'Motorcyclist' should be used instead in the headline.

Well it made the headlines.......I suspect it evoked a lot of sympathy! I also suspect a dog is more likely to get traffic to stop when it crosses the road in Pattaya ... that was obvious when I tried to cross 3rd yesterday, even with the pedestrian lights/crossing in my favour!

just need the other 67,000,000 odd population to run into 1 stray dog each and Thailand may move forwards with rabies and wild dog control

It could have been worse; he could have swerved and killed a child avoiding the dog.  I fail to understand Thais who bang on about wearing masks to guard against disease yet allow hundreds of thousands of these critters  to pollute every soi in the country.

Probably drunk and traveling at high speed on the wrong side of the road or on a footpath and the dog had no chance. The headline should swap motorist and insert Muppet, "Pattaya muppet crashes into dog".

Who, the man or the dog was travelling at high speed?

While it is good that there is one less mutt terrorising the streets, let's not forget it is this pathetic government's mawkish stance and inaction on soi dogs that has put Thailand back decades into third world status regard vermin roaming the streets. They are a menace and (despite the speeding taxi rider) have caused innumerable accidents and attacks on kids. Taxi man should consider suing Prayut.

Anywhere else in a normal world and the man could have sue the municipality for allowing stray dogs roam around unchecked and cause havoc...

People always bring  children into the discussion. Children get hit by drunk drivers, drivers high on drugs, cruel parents, etc etc. But one thing that will not, is my post saying, 'it's just a dog mate'.......

Still no big deal. Life is cheap and goes on irrespective if child or dog. Probably more laws in Thailand to protect the dog than a human being.

when it becomes your child come back and tell me you have the same attitude.

Life changing.

I'm surprised the local reporters didn't hound the win more, and lacked the foresight to use the dog's sidekick for a photo op, to embellish the headliner - a pointer no less, by all accounts.

I'm not Thai. My attitude is completely opposite.

Same about your reply. Thais hold soy dogs in high regard. How many times have we seen articles here how a dog mauled, sometimes fatally, a child, then 500 baht and a wai from the owner (if there even IS an owner) handles the issue?

There is more protection for dogs than humans.

I personally witnessed a guy driving a motorbike at a reasonable pace swerve to try and avoid a soi dog sprawling in the middle of the road. It spooked the dog which jumped right in front of the bike. They both went tumbling and the guy wound up unconscious on the road. The way his head was positioned indicated he likely went on to meet his maker.

Au contraire....  quite possibly there were about 20 neighbours all claiming ownership and compensation for their painful loss... :whistling:

Tell me when you saw a similar article in any newspaper in your own country about a dog killed by a motorist.

It's curious that a man was struck and killed by a motorist in Pattaya last night but that didn't make the cut.

Out of another 60 or so....  I imagine more dogs were also killed on the roads last night...

As you mentioned, whats so different about this one that it makes the news ?

All strays should be removed from the streets....  they simply cause too many problems.
