I have a single visa type B from Dublin. Changing the visa to one year and getting WP sorted was no problem. Done using BOI one stop shop. I no longer want to work for the company, can't abide Thai mangement style and staff with no guts to speak up for themselves, and having met an old friend who offered me a job at less money but in a much nicer location. I have 6 months left on the visa.

He says to do things properly I must hand in my old WP (that seems right as it names my company -but can I change it to a new company?), leave LOS and get another B visa before he can employ me and start the WP process which may take some weeks his being a small company. Is he right now?

BUT, he says in practice I can nip over the Rayong/Burma border& get 30 days entry visa which I can change to a B visa in Phuket. I think he is wrong. He says take no notice of what the armchair theorists say and not to worry, he has friends. I want to do things properly so invite the “armchair theorists” and others to guide me.

You appear to be on a one year extension of stay. So you return the work permit and have seven days to depart Thailand.

Yes you should depart with paperwork to obtain a new non immigrant B visa and then return with it.

If your new employment qualifies you may be able to enter on a 30 day and convert (extra 2,000 baht) and then extend. But from small company/will take time to get work permit talk am not sure this is what he is planning. Friends can come back to bite.

Thanks for advice and the words of caution Lopburi3.

He's a straight up fella. He has a company accountant and uses a lawyer but I think before handing in my notice I'll arrange a meeting with him and his lawyer to make sure he can come up with all the paperwork to guarantee I will get a visa, extension and WP. Just t'be sure. I had no idea of the amount of paperwork needed. The type of work does qualify for WP, that much I know.

Thanks Again
