Drugged up and wealthy sugar cane farm owner arrested at house of mayor in western Thailand

Thai Rath reported on a seven hour standoff at the home of Pak Phraek mayor Pramote Unjitsakun in Kanchanaburi, western Thailand.

 

Around seven pm a man called Thawan Chamket, or "Wan",40, had arrived as Pramote and his wife arrived home.

 

The wife split up with Wan ten years ago.

 

The couple fled inside and called the Muang Kanchanaburi police.

 

For many hours Wan smoked yaba in his Mazda outside. There were fears that he was armed as the family was concerned about a missing shotgun from the house.

 

The mother, daughter and brother of Wan went to the scene to try and reason with him but he resisited and would not give himself up.

 

He was seen brandishing a knife and revving up his vehicle.

After midnight police took the decision to mount a charge and arrest the suspect. It was all over in five minutes.

 

Two knives were found along with equipment for taking drugs.

 

Wan is the owner of a successful sugar cane business on 300 rai of land.

 

But he is a person who has addicted himself to yaba and despite rehab attempts continues to take the drug that has caused many problems for his family.

 

High on drugs he went to the mayor's house where his former wife lives.
